Thanks to Kevin for indulging my bizarre desire for any beers I can get from pretty much everywhere.

Despite the strange can art with the weird-looking dude wailing away on his guitar in front of, like, a minaret (?) or something, this is actually a pretty good-looking beer. It's bright and clear, a golden yellow color. The purely white head is actually decently sized and well managed, holding up pretty nicely and dropping a good amount of lace to the glass.
There's a little biscuit malt and a little grass, enough to push this over average is the taste of corn wasn't so strong. It's not too sweet but it heads that direction.
The taste isn't as good because there's simply not enough to this beer to offset any odd flavors, even if they're not strong either. There is a hint of grass, a mineral quality that builds up as it goes, and an interesting note to the malts that isn't richly bready, just kind of...bready. Wonder?
The body is light but actually has a little something to it, crispness is sharp but easy enough, certainly consistent, and it's reasonably smooth.

Mass-produced lagers are notorious for being lean and under-malted but Soproni has enough grain to generate - and fully sustain - a considerably large head. It also has a fairly resplendent golden complexion, another positive indication. It's also obviously been filtered; the only thing disrupting clarity is the frost on my pint glass. All in all, looks good.

The aroma isn't anything to write home about. Heck, it's not even worth finding a piece of paper or taking the cap off the pen. It's pedestrian at best, borderline unappetizing at worse. It smells far more like corn (or an industrially produced corn-derived product) than it does fresh-baked bread or cereal grain (malt's natural scents).

The taste, fortunately, if properly chilled, passes my 'face test': I can swallow it without making an off-put face. It avoids this, by and large, because it has very little flavour at all; as with the aroma, there's very little maltiness on the palate. No bread. No grain. Little else except a subtly golden corn kernel-like note and a slight sweetness.

This neutrality, combined with an energetic team of bubbles, does make for a relatively refreshing beverage. I generally prefer a little more character but, credit where credit is due, this has no problems quenching my thirst on this especially hot summer afternoon. If that's your only concern then this makes an acceptable means to that end.

I think the statement above is about all you need to know about Soproni. It's all I really have to say, anyhow. Like so many other national-brand, industrially-brewed lagers this has just the bare minimum amount of personality and makes sure to exclude no one (the most casual, occasional beer drinkers included). And it's those people that are likely to enjoy it most.

The Hungarian Soproni is a decent euro pale lager. The beer pours a clear golden yellow with foamy white head (that dissipates over time) and is leaving a spotty lace. The scent has grass like hops with slight bready hints. The taste is smooth balance between biscuit like malt and grass like hops. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a very sessionable beer and was my fav whilst in Budapest!

Pours a clear golden color which is topped with quite decent white head, settling down relatively quick.
There's not much to the nose, only a weak hoppy aroma.
The taste is light, slightly sweet at the beginning, follwoed by a mild bitterness all the way to the finish.
Not much to the taste here, but you get the desired refreshment out of it. Nothing complex about Soproni.

Had this one in can form whilst enjoying a boat trip on the Danube River in Budapest as this was the only beer available.

Baically your standard European lager, dirt cheap (about the equivalent of 70p), and did it's job. The trip didn't call out for anything fancy other than something to hold you over, and it lasted for as long as the trip.

However, there is no need to seek this out again as there are beers like this in every location.

Nothing special, an inoffensive, drinkable beer, little in the way of taste or smell. Didn't get to see it as was drunk from the can, but you can picture it just from the taste.

A: Darker gold. Pours pretty clear.
S: Smells like your average run-of-the-mill beer. Not very hoppy, somewhat watered down.
T: It wasn't horrible but it wasn't complex at all and not very intriguing. The aftertaste was ok.
M: Echoes what I said about taste.
O: Mehhh. Not too impressed, and not too keen on having again anytime soon.

a totally forgettable hungarian brew, akin to some of the lesser american mass market stuff. it pours clear and thin, yellow to gold, but pretty flat looking. light white head gone in minutes. nose is spent grain and corn syrup, flavor to match. must be made with some very mineral rich water because it has a sort of irony taste, not metallic and cheap, but definitely minerally. feel is bizarre, its got some bready body which can be filling after a few, and it doesnt have enough carbonation, but its also quite light. confusing really. also never had one that was quite cold enough, draft or bottle, so that may have been weighing it down a little bit. overall this is one to skip, some much better beers made in hungary.

Chilled, from 0.5 L can into a standard pilsner glass.
It's an average (tending to under-average) pilsner-style beer, with nothing to point-out in any way - not a good beer, but not a awful one either.
Clear light gold color, semi-persistent head, medium-carbonation, unrecognizable smell of hops and yeast. Tastes industrial. Mouthfeel is somewhat washed-out.
Overall - a correctly brewed, but not an interesting pilsner beer.

Pale gold in the glass, reasonable head, not overly carbonated. Light aroma, slightly sweet and grassy rather then dry and acid. Taste is fairly smooth, hint of bitterness from the hops but also a hint of sweetness from the malts in the finish. Better than I expected, and whilst I would not buy this in preference to anything better, it was enjoyed on tap several times in bars and cafes while in Budapest.

Thanks to my friend Leah. 500ml can with some kind of advertising on it. Bottom says 07.11.2011.

It pours a pale gold, nothing to write home about, but nothing horrible. The head is bright and white and lasts for a while before receding to some industrial-looking lacing.

The smell is unique. It smells like medicine with some tropical fruit and somehow some "skunk" even though it is from the can. Very much like a better version of Heineken, but that isn’t saying much.

The flavor is light and rather unoffensive. It has a lot of simple bready malts, some noticeable just bland/plain sugar, herbal hops, and a subtle fruitiness. It doesn’t have enough flavor for it to be really good and too much sweetness to call it subtly complex.

It is just an EPL really, nothing more.
