Bought in Budapest

A: Pours a dark brown, almost black body with a few fingers of dark brown bubbly head. Retention is mediocre and leaves some lacing.

S: Pleasant aroma of roasted malts, some chocolate and yeasty bread.

T: Following the aroma, a nice mix of caramel malts and breadiness. Some dark fruits and and interesting yeast note comes after.

M: Medium-light bodied with a load of carbonation. The texture is very froathy and leaves an dry fruity yeast for a while.

O: I thought this was a great brew, but it could also have been because of the string of recent bad ones while in Europe. I would like locally so I can drink it more often.

A: Nearly pitch black with a short, varied bubble size head. Reddish on the edges. So dark I didn't realize the bottle was green until I poured it all.
S: Bitter coffee ice cream malt + somewhat sweet syrupy quality.
T: Not particularly heavy, smoked malt. Tart aftertaste. Not particularly flavorful.
M: Watery with mild carbonation.
O: Not great, but inoffensive. Boring but drinkable.

Thanks to my family for bringing a bottle back from Budapest. This was quite a nice beer and actually fit in the given style here. It's wasn't just another bland dark Euro lager. Instead there was a dry cocoa powder flavor with hints of toffee and caramel that also remind me of a brown porter. Very drinkable and while it's not the most complex beer, I wouldn't turn a second bottle down.

Pours very dark brown, almost black. Off-white head which soon dissipates with limited lacing.

Aroma is roasted malt and some coffee, not very complex. Taste is quite watery - the was some bitterness felt in the beginning, but that is it. Almost no aftertaste, just a slight roasted malty feeling for a minute or so. Very thin mouthfeel with low carbonation.

The bottle design is certainly better than the taste.

This Hungarian dark lager is really fine-looking and correctly smelling beer, which could make a good start for a new drinker-beer friendship; but alas, everything afterwards is bad to awful: from washed-out taste, to unpleasant mouthfeel and really unferiendly aftertaste which makes me resistant to chance of giving this beer another try.
Too bad for fine appearance and correct smell, but it's not a good beer.

Got it from Hungary,can 0,33l

A-Dark,few bubbles, tick brown foam long lasting.

S-Mostly caramel, something you should expect. Very similar as cola drinks. Also some alcohol aroma.

T/M-Medium warm,medium bitter,medium carbonation,caramel malt,thick mouthfeel taste. Drinkable for sure.

O-On the first spot, above average Dunkel, but after you drink it,it goes to average.

Pallid dark lager from Heineken Hungaria Sorgyarak.

Tasted from a half litre can bought in Budapest. The label describes the beer as "Karamellmalataval." In the glass, beer is a dark mahoghany color, very attractive. doesn't taste like much, though. The roasted malt must be for color, or else it's just caramel. Quite light bodied and watery in the mouth. Faint sweetness and a touch of bitterness that could be attributed to hops.

Not unpleasant but can only be compared to the kinds of dark colored beer that used to be common in pizza parlors in the 1970s.

Had this recently on my trip to Budapest and reviewing from notes. Poured from the 500mL bottle into a tall pilsner style glass.

The bottle is labelled Karamellmaltalaval, which is weird because I can't taste any caramel malt. The taste is slightly burnt with a bit of a minerally taste in there as well. Strange beer, and somewhat disappointing. Looks good though.

The colour is dark warm brown. The two finger head is beige. Lots of lacing.

The smell is light and dry with roasted notes of dark malt, some caramelized sugar and a hint of bitter hops.

The taste is quite sweet and rather simple. Some roasted/burned notes, hints of minerals. Dry bitter notes. Low body. The aftertaste got some sweet notes of wort and hints of minerals. A very mild bitter flavour in the finish.

The carbonation is medium. Medium sized bubbles that borders to being sharp.

A dark lager that lacks depth and body.

t: roasted malts, thin mouthfeel, a bit of a metallic aftertaste.

o: decent but nothing special.

Bought in Budapest two weeks ago, this beer comes in a 500ml slim green bottle; BB 28/08/2011, served chilled in a stemmed pilsner glass.

A: nearly black in colour, coming with a dark beige frothy head with good retention.
S: the roasty, grainy-malty, lightly syrupy and chocolaty nose is supported by a pretty decent level of sourness as of bread doughs and black dates. Malty and refreshing is the general impression.
T: the foretaste is somewhat too light in flavour as opposed to the aroma, that it's metallic, neutrally-flavoured roasty with a rather clean palate. The aftertaste comes restrained and short, featuring scattered notes of sour black dates, bitter herbs, roast-malts and some rough hop palate.
M&D: although the mouthfeel is refreshing enough and does not feel too stimulating or fizzy, the overall body is too light and the flavour overly understated. Nothing to write home about for this bottled version, while the draught/tap version that I had at the airport certainly tasted better with more intense syrupy and roasty flavour, although it was rather fizzy.
