We introduce a new special guest in our brewery. It is India Pale Ale (IPA) and its history comes from Great Britain. IPAs was brewed for long distance transports to India and with its high bitterness was inspiration for European brewmasters to create bitter lagers. Our IPA is top-fermented beer brewed from Czech ingredientes and two kinds of American hops (Amarillo and Cascade). It combines full malt body with high hop bitterness and hoppy aroma. All the year round.

Klašterní Pivovar Strahov India Pale Ale
on tap at the brewery, 31.12.2013; .4l mug for 64 Kč (@$3.12)
6.3% abv, 16˚Plato, unfiltered

Hazy amber body beneath a thick, creamy off-white head that displays excellent retention and leaves broken sheets and rings of lace about the glass as it goes. The aroma is malty sweet, laced with citrusy/fruity and gently grassy hops. The flavor follows suit, and it's delicately caramelish and brightly fruity (perhaps from the Amarillo) with the citrusy hops seeming to float on top. Surprisingly sweet for an "American IPA". Rich. Moderate bitterness. Low for the style, but it works here if you put the IPA designation out of your mind... think strong hoppy ale. A dextrinous medium body leaves it creamy-smooth across the palate with just a delicate bristle of carbonation to keep it from becoming dull. It finishes drying with both residual malt and hops left over in the long-lingering finish. Overall: a good beer but not an IPA.

It all starts with the presentation, what looks like a nice bottle of wine, 1 litre, with a swingtop. The body is cloudy orange with a generous head, and there is lace evident. Faint hop aroma. The carbonation is right there, still a very drinkable balance of orange, grapefruit, pineapple, and San Pallagrino mineralness. What a treat, thanks for bringing back Jason.

On-tap at Klašterní Pivovar Strahov, Prague, Czech Republic

A: The beer is slightly hazy in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a two finger high off white head that never really seemed to die down.
S: There are moderate aromas of grapefruit hops in the nose.
T: Like the smell, flavors of grapefruit dominate the overall taste. There is a mild to light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied, crisp and smooth on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is quite refreshing. I would definitely try this one again if I ever had another opportunity to do so.

Got it from Czech republic. Bottle 0,33l

A - Really beautiful honey dark orange color. White foam, leaving nice lacing.
S - Honey with huge hops aroma. Intensive smell of above average IPA smell.
T/M - Can't describe how beautiful this is! ok, it is classic IPA, but really good. Highly drinkable, fresh, right amount of carbonation, bitter aftertaste, really refreshing. Also full of taste, again some honey, a bit more sweetness. It must be cold to taste it right. Hops, barley, everything is in the mouth.

O - One of the best !

*First off, I want to thank my good friend Dave who was kind enough to bring me back two bottles of this brew to sample from his recent vacation to Prague. Probably the best beer brewed in the Czech Republic, and the only American style IPA brewed in the country. Thank you brother!

Pours a murky light caramel in color w/ a 1/2 finger white head that lingers and produces good amounts of lacing on the glass. Aromas of light pine, grapefruit, and this unique bubble gum/cotton candy scent. The flavor was of initial bubblegum/cotton candy sweetness immediately leading into pine and grapefruit, and closes w/ mild dank basement bitterness that is somewhat herbal. Medium bodied and lush w/ slightly higher end carbonation. You could without a doubt session this beer w/ no signs of ABV in the sip. Plus, you would expect no less from one of the top beer consuming nations in the world per capita.

Overall, a real unique and special treat from this low alcohol Pilsner rich nation! This brew could w/o a doubt hold it's own against the IPAs brewed in the US and receive high marks. My guess is they used a Pilsner malt base in concocting this unique foreign IPA.
