This place rocks because they have the best 6:00 pm peanuts in all of Metz. I know because I lived on them for a month when I was trapped there with only enough funds for either beer or food. I chose beer and free peanuts.

These peanuts are so great they would make Jimmy Carter blush. They’re perfectly roasted and well salted and they prepare your palate for all the great brews that the Harp has to offer.

Aside from the peanuts, I like this place because they have the cleanest lines in Metz and the Guinness tastes better here than anywhere else I’ve tried it in France. I find something comforting about Guinness when I’m homesick and this place does the job just right.

The Harp’s staff is also great. They’re very Americanized which means that they don’t suck complete ass like all the other bar staff in France and most of Europe. It’s amazing what tips do for the service industry. All I can say is that this place must cater to American pigs like me who actually tip because they know how serve and do it with pride.

Also, the bartenders all seem to speak English and one of them was even Australian. I got along well with all of them, which was good because I went to the Harp almost every day at six. The waitresses were extremely good looking too. Harp gets a bonus for this because I think that the service industry should provide eye candy at places like this.

As to the beer, the Harp offers a lot of Belgians on tap. I became very fond of Duvel’s Christmas beer when I was there. I like that it is served in a giant glass goblet and in fact I’ve found that almost all of their beers are served in the proper glassware. As a bit of glassware whore myself, I dig this.

When I was there last, the Harp had 38 beers and almost none of them were French. If you’re ever trapped in the little fortified town on the Mosel check it out.
