i like mckay's. this is where i go when i head down to bar harbor (intown, anyway).

the place is a houselike resturaunt a few minutes walk from what i consider downtown. nice bar, if small. outdoor seating as well.

service has been good a few times i've been but the last time our waiter had too many tables or something.

there aren't a tonne of beers on at mckay's. you're not going to confuse this place with the great lost bear. but they are solid beers and they do have a beer engine (which usually has gritty's on).

the food is good. i dig it. full menu with pub food and seafood and local stuff and good desserts. there are many fine eateries in bar harbor but most don't have mckay's beers.

McKay's has turned into THE place on Mt. Desert Island for beer lovers to enjoy great draft beer. Their selection is highly Maine-centric, including some excellent breweries not often heard of outside of Maine. Bartenders are very knowledgeable. They usually have a cask available. Also, food there is outstanding and local, though certainly not cheap. All in all, a really great place to go, either to the bar, or the restaurant proper. Though if you're a beer geek, sit yourself down at the bar and enjoy chatting with the barkeep.

Stumbled onto this place by chance whilst looking for a bite to eat. Next thing I know, I'm leafing through a short, but high quality beer list, seeing brews such as A Le Coq Russian Imperial Stout, JW Lees Harvest Ale, Sinebrychof Baltic Porter! And they had a beer engine!? What a fantastic suprise!

Our waitress was nice and responsive... she didn't know too much about beer. But the service was good. The food was good too. And all the while, we felt cozy on their lovely outdoor patio.

A great place to unwind after long hiking and climbing in Acadia!

After a day of hiking and biking Acadia Park, McKay's made for a nice drink/dinner stop. The resturant is situated in an old "downeast"
home. The dining area is on the right side, and the bar on the left side of the building.Plenty of seating is available in the large outdoor patio. All and all, a nice setting.
The one outstanding facet of McKays is the hand pump....it has to be the only one on the island (and one of the few in Maine).Good food and a comfortable setting makes up for a weak beer selection.
Worth a stop when you're in the Harbor.
Update 10/20/2011....Over the past few years, the quality and selection of beer has greatly improved.
