A brown porter with a generous dose of real vanilla beans added after fermentation, giving it an amazing complexity and a smooth rich flavor. There is nothing subtle about this beer.

Bought from Beer Drop in a 12 ounce can (smaller is better for an old man and taster.)
While they have been brewing for some 17 years, this is my first from Dry Dock; so I must have not been observant of Beer Drop's offerings, having received six shipments in twelve months.)

Vanilla Porter has two English porter qualities. First, Dry Dock seems like it blended a tad of the "stale" that we get in the English styling. Second, Vanilla lacks a lasting foam; looking flatter like the E porter. Other than those two qualities, it's an All-American porter. As one of the micro's four flagships, Vanilla Porter has served Dry Dock well. And they handle the vanilla well; it is strong in the nose, but almost absent on the palate. It tastes real. This is good relief from the artificial dessert than many American micros serve up when they lean on the additives too much.

For my micro-review of Dry Dock, I went on their website hoping to find out why they chose that name for a micro on The Front Range. I really didn't get a satisfactory answer. But their history is they (a couple) grew out of a home brewing community operation 17 years ago and Dry Dock soon won a bunch of awards over the years and grew their production. I suppose we here this small business success story a lot. Glad that Dry dock could finally share their beer with someone in Chicago... and glad that Beer Drop has found a way.

L;. Pours a dark black brown with a medium tan head and some lacing on the glass

S:. Rich milk chocolate intersperses with a nice vanilla and some toasted roasted malt.

T:. Milk chocolate bar, mixes with vanilla and some watery toasted malt.

F:. Cola like carbonation, body little smaller than expected.

O:. Love the smell but taste doesn't live up to smell.

Smooth and creamy and the vanilla does shine. Very enjoyable for dessert.

I like this one. It has a nice vanilla smell, not too overpowering but you can tell it is there. You could definitely taste the vanilla in the flavor too. It had a nice smooth mouthfeel/

Pretty good vanilla stout. Smells strong of vanilla. Taste is vanilla porter. A bit thin mouthfeel. Overall I enjoyed one, but probably wouldn’t do two.

2016 can poured into a snifter. Nearly opaque dark brown color with a modest light tan head. Big vanilla aroma with some chocolate and roast. The taste was as expected. The vanilla mixed nicely with roasty and chocolate notes - well-balanced. Medium bodied and a big taste for a 5.4% beer. This one held up nicely, especially in the vanilla department.

This beer has lots of vanilla, some cocoa, and it's on the sweet side. The appearance is normal dark color, with minimal head (from a can). What it didn't have was a lot of beer character. It didn't have much roasted malt character, as most porters would have. The body is on the thin side. Recommended if you like vanilla a lot, but there are much better porters out there.

9/21/17. REALLY strong vanilla nose. Taste is very dry and clean for a port. Definitely not a milk stout. Some bitter finish but not really a chocolate or coffee flavor. What I really liked about it was the strong vanilla scent and the dry, clean, dark flavor which was almost more stout-like than porter. Pint glass from the tap at Trailhead Taphouse & Kitchen, Golden, CO.
