Poured from growler into a Dry Dock tulip. Beer was black, with a one-finger, dark brown head. Soft carbonation and very light lacing around the glass.

Aroma was raisins, prunes, chocolate, molasses and vanilla.

Taste was dark fruits, chocolate, coffee, molasses, vanilla and malt. Very rich and complex.

Creamy, velvety mouthfeel. Phenomenal beer. I really wish they'd make this beer more often as it's very, very good. Good enough to match up against some of the hyped-up RIS's on the market.

Poured at the 4th Anniv. party the other day. Poured waaay too cold, imho. I like a cellar temp stout, but hey, this was good anyway.
Dark brown, ebony pour. Light brown, reddish foam grew to about 1 1/2 fingers. Decreased to a film. Slick lacing.
slightly burnt chocolate on the nose. Coffee. Prunish. Alcohol is detectable.
A good blend of the coffee and chocolate flavors. Very small hint of anise. The prune and coffee give it a sweetish tinge to it. Chewy, but needed to be warmer. The flavors seemed to pop toward the end of the glass.
ABV is ok for drinking. It's noticeable which is safe.

Had on-tap at Dry Dock Brewery. This beer has been aged for 9 months. Poured into a 10 oz. sample glass.

A- Had the appearance of a dark chocolate brownie. Produced a fingers width of mocha colored head. Dissipates rather quickly.

S- Had a deep roasted coffee scent. A bit of chocolate here and there. The burnt/roasted characteristics were almost too much.

T- Burnt molasses, deep roasted coffee beans, and espresso all meld into one. Really complex with all the various layers of charred and burnt malts. There was a slight bitter kick in the finish.

M- Pretty heavy bodied, nice amount of viscosity. Had some carbonation.

D- The taste only got more complex as the beer warmed, making it very easy to drink. The 9.5% abv really was put aside by the rich, dominant taste.

Overall, I'm really not a huge fan of RIS with big roasted attributes. However, this one was really well done. So much so that even I couldn't deny this was a quality RIS.

Why did they use a German saint for a Russian Imp Stout? Sampled had a midnight black color. Very dense with no light really coming though when held to the light. Good viscosity as a light clinging stayed with the glass. Limited head and retention through the tasting though.

The nose has a great malty complexity to it. There is more of a chocolate malt aroma, but some light roast and melanodian malt notes as well. There is a light lactic almost oatmeal like aroma that enhances the chocolate notes. Noticeable body with some clean alcohol and minor yeast notes. More of an English feel but there are some US hop notes that are just detectable on the back end.

The taste is big with a great malt flavor. A more dark chocolate malt flavor really comes out. Even more so than the nose indicates. There is a light toffee note that blends well with the more oatmeal like flavor that just leaves a great malt flavor into the finish. The roast and astringent notes back off and really let the chocolate malt flavor shine. The yeast is a bit cleaner than the nose indicated. Very clean with some notes of alcohol. More in the body than taste. Some nice sautéed plum notes that really balance out the chocolate malt nicely. Very clean.

The body is big with some warming effects. Carbonation is nice with a just a hint to let you know it's there but don't overshadow the beer. Nice complexity and cleanly brewed. Overall a great RIS.

I stopped in last night to pick up a growler while I waiting for chinese takeout. At first I wasn't sure what I wanted so I sampled all of the new the beers they had on tap at Dry Dock. All were good but folks, this RIS is good enough to compete with the big boys.

A: Jet black with a dark 2 finger cappuccino head.

S: The aroma was the first indication that this beer was better than I expected. Big rich coffee notes, dark roasted grains, sweet malty chocolate and vanilla.

T: Oh mama, this beer is legit. Big, full flavors of espresso come at you first, quickly followed by velvety sweet malt chocolate notes. Very complex as it warms, delicious.

D: The alcohol is very well hidden by all of the big flavors. It is a sipper but you will want more than one glass, at least I did.

Overall: Dry Dock has always had good beers but this is an exceptional beer. I have a 5 gallon keg of Ten FIDY on tap here at my house and I would gladly replace it with a keg of this stuff when its gone. It is that good.
