On tap at the brewery in aurora.
Look is quite nice similar to the shwarzbier I had earlier. Nice big head, without much visible carbonation. Color is a solid brownish red, with some lacing building as I drink.
Smell has a lot of ale yeast going on here with a decent amount of sweetness. Some mild bittering hop aromas come through as well.
Taste is similar to the smell. Not super malty but the molasses they claim to use is definitely coming through in the aftertaste rather than roasty malts. It's very interesting. The start is a standard British brown or amber that goes into darker dried fruits rather than malt notes. Quite fun very good.
Feel is a bit thick but it seems fitting a bit heavy and a bit of an armchair beer. Very laid back and you know your drinking it when it's in your mouth, definitely creamy.
Overall a very interesting take on what I want to call an English dark ale. But American is a good descriptor, just colonial american. Big dark flavors but not traditionally malty.

On tap at the brewery. Yummy. "Colonial, made with corn and molasses" I was told. Dark brown pour, tastes of molasses and malt, brown bread, easy drinkability. A very good choice. I would absolutely get this again.

In honor of old Bennie's 306th Bday, this was on tap. I've had other breweries' sample of this beer, may as well try DD's.
Pours a turbid brown, rich red. Off brown head, pretty good lacing. Looks like and old beer from Ben's kitchen.
Nutty and caramel aroma. More nutty. Sweet brown bread, some black pepper spice here and there. Subtle but good.
Taste is nutty as well. Some bread and caramel. Grainy a tad. This one has a bit of a mineral bite to it. Earthy and not sweet like some others I've had. I dunno, just doesn't seem to fit the profile of Franklin...but who the hell am I?
Good beer. Would pair well with many meals

On tap at the brewpub. Reddish body with little head, butvery lacey. Toasted malt, mollasses, good drinkability. Tasted as a British style, mollasses making it seem porterish. apparently the original Franklin recipe with corn, which gave it an unusual sweetness. Average mouthfeel.
