a nice stout here, slightly sweet, but it really works with the bitter dark roasted barley. dense flat black color, great head, good lace. aromatics of vanilla and burnt malt, a nice combination. dark roasty flavors from the grain and there is that sweetness again. long finish, delicate for a dark one, sturdy too through, a good mouthfeel in that way. easy drinking and smooth like a nice milkshake. an enjoyable brew, a bit generic and not flawless, but well enough made and a fine accompaniment to any of the delicious burgers on the menu at the old mill. not the best beer I had there, but not the worst either. good session stout, wintery and satisfying.

This was the name per the menu, but possibly the Devout Stout per the website

On tap in a 12 oz pint glass:

Poured a dark brown with a thin white head that was not well retained (Again, I am assuming that the bartender knows how to pour). For a stout, I was looking for a nice thick head that is well retained.

A light roasted malt aroma, not much else, pretty simple. I was expecting something much more robust and with some additional aromas, but it is pretty one dimensional.

The taste is light, roasted malt, a hint of sweetness, maybe molasses. Again, the taste is pretty simple. I expected more complexity and depth to the taste.

The beer had a light body with decent carbonation. The beer was pretty smooth but certainly not creamy, as expected from most good stouts.

Drinkability is average. Overall, this is pretty simple beer that is less than average beer.
