Visited Dennis Brothers Liquors while in town for the day.

Walking in the beer sections is immediately in front of you. The store was very well kept, clean, organized, and inviting to a first time visitor. Plenty of high quality items on the shelf as well as full stock of year round gems. I can't fully speak for selection as I was not from the area but to me they had tons of great local products and plenty else.

The service was by far the most enjoyable part of visiting. I was greeted as I walked in and was allowed to browse around for myself for a while before I was approached by John and asked if I needed any help. I inquired about their local products maybe not known as well as Surly and I was given a full walk through on many of their different items. John was knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. I was even given access to some high demand products that I would usually expect to be reserved or saved for regulars. Conversation was laid back and relaxed, just like talking with another beer geek.

I really insist on this being the place to go for out of towners looking for the best Minnesota has to offer. I visited a couple other places but Dennis Bros by far was the most enjoyable with highest quality. I hope to return soon to give them more of my money!!

I'm not sure how this is most highly rated beer store in Minnesota, since I can think of four better ones off the top of my head, but it's certainly not a poor place at all. After stopping at Heritage, Casanova's, and Blue Max though, Dennis Bros pales in comparison.

First, let me say that my friend and I had a hell of a time getting there. It's out of the way of just about everything, and the roads surrounding the store were riddled with construction zones. But that didn't affect the experience of course.

We were greeted by a friendly couple when we walked in, who asked us if we were looking for anything in particular. We weren't, and they went back to watching the Food Network (at high volume). I've been reading reviews about this place and I'm disappointed that I didn't engage with the employees more, since they sound amazing, but oh well.

Things were reasonably priced, but the selection really wasn't very good. The best thing I saw was a wide selection of Epic bombers and Boulevard's Smokestack Series (including Rye-on-Rye). Otherwise, they had only a smattering of upper Midwest breweries, the best probably being four packs of Double Crooked Tree. We ended up looking at the whiskey selection a lot more, which was pretty good.

Not worth he journey, IMO, but that's not to say it's a bad store. There are just better ones in the Twin Cities.

This place is amazing. The brother that own it are unbelievably helpful and nice. One of them is like a beer encyclopedia and does not carry a beer that he does not know EVERYTHING about! The other one knows everything about their great wine selection. They do more than just learn what makes up the beer, they learn about the brewery and people that brew it.

They have a lot of Minnesota craft beers, Midwestern craft beers, and American craft beers. They have a ton of great beer from all around the world as well, from Japanese reserve beers to Belgian limited release beers, if a new and exciting beer comes on the market these guys will get it!

A few times now they did not carry something specific that I was looking for and brought some in on their next order for me. Class acts.

I have turned a group of friends onto this place and now they will not go anywhere else.

I live in Nebraska and was visiting family nearby. After reading several reviews and seeing this place listed as World-Class I made sure that I paid them a visit.

They make the most of the room they have. I've been to far bigger bottle shops, but it is clear they utilize shelf space well. Don't expect them 12oz and 22oz bottles of the same beer! The night I visited they have a representative from Summit Brewing giving free tastings. That had been well received as when I got there they had already sold out of a couple summit varieties.

The staff were very kind and let me pile my beer near the register while i shopped. I took my time browsing the selection and they answered questions as I had them, but never made me feel rushed. Because I was flying home I had brought boxes with me that would need to hold all of my purchased beer. They were fine with me making sure everything fit before I bought it.

After checkout one of the guys even carried one of the boxes of beer to my car for me.

Overall, a very good bottle shop, but not what I had in mind for World Class.

I live in New Jersey and was visiting family in Minnesota so to come across a place that lived up to all the reviews is very satisfying. Visited on Monday, August the 27th.

The Brothers clearly know their stuff. Was able to pick up some 2007 Orval which is a nice treat. Also picked up good local brew in Olvalde and learned much more about the story behind the brewery. I'm a Fantome nut and was great to see Strange Ghost on the shelf. While not totally rare it isn't exactly that easy to find the Ghost either. Really enjoyed my time in the store and the conversation.

A few comments about the store: a) size enough to hold good quality but not too large to be overwhelming during your shopping; b) nice selection for wine/liquor; and c) a case with roughly 10-15 varieties of cigars adds a touch often overlooked in a craft store.

Overall, one of the best stores I've visited around the country.

I first read about Dennis Brothers around a year and a half ago while looking for good liquor stores in my area. Since then Dennis Brothers has become my store of choice, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The owners John and Steve are very knowledgeable, very approachable, and are always happy to chat about good beers and when they will be expecting something new to arrive. All of the employees there are friendly, and more than willing to help you find something. I personally love their selection (which is probably my favorite part next to their incredible customer service); I always find something new that I have never found/been able to try before. I will continue to give them my business, and find myself consistently going out of my way to support them as no other stores I have been to in the area have been so friendly and knowledgeable.

I lived in Cottage Grove for almost a year before I discovered this place. Before that it was big chain stores with average selections. Dennis Bros. had me hooked from day one. I went in with some friends before a trip to the cabin to pick up some beer. At the front counter the gentlemen running the establishment informed us of free glasses with the purchase of a certain kind of beer. We left with three beautiful Fat Tire goblets.

The store is pretty small but it uses as much of that space as possible to showcase one of the best beer selections I have ever seen. I'm a big fan of Belgian style beers and Dennis Bros. has introduced me to a few new favorites. The guys up front are always willing to help out if you ask and let you look around if you don't.

The best part about Dennis Bros. is the smile you get when you walk in. They make a point to recognize their customers and appreciate their business. Cheers guys! Keep it up!

Went to DB based in the ridiculous scores on BA. Walked in hoping to be blown away by thier selection, but was kind of disappointed. If you like Rogue beer this is the place to go otherwise pretty average selection. The service was alright. Probably could be considered really good if you don't mind being asked a couple times what you want or what your looking for. Prices seemed to be a bit more expensive than other stores.

I did ask for some KBS and the guy at the desk said it was spoken for. Out of curiosity I went home and checked their twitter account to see if it had been posted that they had some. Unfortunately it still said they did when I got home. Glad I didn't see that before i drove there only to be denied!

Not a bad place, nice looking and the nicest in cottage grove but not the best in the TC by a long shot

These guys are always great! Small looking store front that opens up inside and is nicely filled with beer. They have a nice selection of beers, with a huge range including nice locals and harder to find stuff. Every once in a while you'll be walking through and see something that hasn't been around for months that was pulled out of the cellar. They also get a good supply of special releases. The price is very fair for the quality of beer they keep around. It's worth the 30min drive each way for me! Cheers!

A= A very clean and well organized store with a warm and up-scale feeling.

Q= Well thought out selection of desirable brands. Products displayed nicely with a touch not seen elsewhere... necker labels on 6 pack bottles all faced forward to provide a very neat look.

S= Was greeted warmly upon entering the store. Upon mentioning it was my first visit, I was given a quick tour and offered the chance to have questions answered.

S= A complete selection of what I call "winners." Not everything from each brewery, but the sought after brands that I look for.

V= Very reasonable prices on everything I looked at/bought. Some blow-outs also mixed in that went light on my wallet.

Final impression - they helped me get the 3 boxes of product I bought to my car. Not many places do that. Overall... a great store and great beer guys!

Stopped in here on my recent trip to Minneapolis. I was not disappointed.

Strip mall front and typical beer/liquor store look and feel. Very nice selection of every craft brew available to Minnesota. I was mostly looking for lambics. Sadly they are just as scarce here as anywhere else. I did pick up a case of Surly and a handful of beers I can't get back home though. All prices seemed reasonable. No dates were out of line.

We spent at least a half an hour chatting with the owner John. Talk about a great guy. Very knowledgeable about everything beer and super nice.

I will make a point to stop here from now on when traveling to the twin cities.

I drove here from Minneapolis because it was the only place that still had any GI BCBS. Not the closest place to me, but well worth the trip.

At first glance, it looks on the small side, after walking around they fill the space nicely with lots of good brews. Shelves are organized by brand and the selection is top notch. They have some liquor up front and wine in another room too. Beerwise, John really knows his stuff and was extremely helpful in finding other bottles that I was looking for.

It is a shame this place isn't closer, but they know how to treat a customer and I will for sure be back.

Its always a pleasure going to dennis brothers because I know that Im going to get a great product, great service and great conversation.

Before going to Dennis brother I was a "light beer drinker" and I thought thats what good beer was until John and Steve who took the time to show me beers like Bell'S HopSlam, Surly's Darkness and Ayinger DoppelBock.

This store and my purchase left a wide smile on my face for days. Fantastic specials, great prices, and 1-4 year old cellar pulls at regular or sale prices. I got some BA beers for less than $5, KBS, 4 yr old saison, $2 Mikkeller, and Hopslam at just above cost. All the great midwest offerings and a retailer not just after a buck, what more could you ask for?

Walked into a nice store with a decent sized craft section on the right followed by what looked like a large section of other spirits in the back left. Employee at the conter greeted me very friendly and asked if I needed any help. After checking out the beers I decided on picking up some Struiselensis and Duvel Triple Hop. I stopped by this place on the way to Minneapolis. This is a bit out of the way in the middle of no-where but its a must stop if you are anywhere close. Located in the middle of strip mall in a small suburb...The store is on the small side, but bright and clean inside, looks new and inviting. As we walked in both brothers said hello and were very helpful. Asked us twice during our browsing for help and it was cool that they had a cognac, whiskey and Bells tasting all going on the same time. The selection wish this place is awesome. 1. it gets a bunch of mountain and west coast beers you can't get in bigger cities like Chicago (Deschutes, Surly, and Boulevard). 2. Even better though they have an unreal selection of midwest beers, the rarer 4 packs and on offs (double-crooked tree and rare de struise). The quality is good, not great as it has mostly all regional beers but nots of ton super high quality. The prices are super cheap too boot.

This is on the best American beer stores around, a must stop.

Visited this place with the girlfriend while in town for Darkness Day.

Dennis Brother's is in the middle of nowhere located among miles and miles of cornfields.

Quality here is very good. The store seemed to be kept at a constant temperature and everything was well lit, kept in good condition, and the selection seemed to be rotated semi-often.

Service was also very good. Since the store was on the small side, the people working there paid a lot of attention to us and were super nice when it came time to ring us up. Also had a nice conversation with one of the guys about coming into Minneapolis for Darkness Day. It's always much appreciated when the clerks are willing to make genuine conversation with you and share your passion and interest for good beer.

Selection was amazing. One whole side of the wall was dedicated to a huge selection of beers including Bells, Deschutes, Odells, New Belgium, etc. Also had a very large selection of imports which was also appreciated although I'd have loved to see some Cantillon or Drie Fonteinen.

Prices here were very reasonable. Picked up a Black Butte XXI for $13 and some Odell's Saboteur and Deconstruction for $16. So... probably a shade above average but nothing to complain about, especially given the hospitable service.

Well worth checking out in my opinion! And quite the scenic drive on the way there also!

In the cornfields. As you walk in the beer greets you on the right. They pack a decent amount in a small store.

They have a lot o rarities sitting around and a lot of high-quality brews. They have all of the stuff not available in WI: Boulevard, Brau Brothers, Surly, Deschutes, ect...

The selection was not amazing but solid. I found a much greater selection at Blue Max, but the quality here was a step higher.

The prices were definitely on the high side. The service was nice, the main guy with the moustache was informative and helpful.

Overall its a solid location near the Twin Cities, but Blue Max is a bit closer to the center, though this one is closer to Wisconsin.

Yesterday I visited Dennis Brothers Liquors for the first time, and was thoroughly impressed. It is certainly deserving of the high ratings people have been giving. This store combines the two things I consider most important: large selection and extraordinary service.

If a beer is available in the state of Minnesota, you will find it here -- at a very reasonable price. And you won't just find one or two beers from each brewery -- almost the entire product line is available from each place. There are hard-to-find beers, limited releases, 6 liter Methuselahs (ABT 12!), and much more.

I've been to other stores with a large selection, but have been very disappointed in the service. That won't happen at Dennis Brothers. John not only knows his products, he knows how to guide his customers so they'll enjoy them to their fullest. While I shopped, I heard him give food pairing ideas to several customers... and he wasn't just parroting something he read off a script. His pairings showed a true understanding of both the food and the drink and WHY they work together. I know some people are afraid to ask for help, and others think they know it all and don't need any help -- but forget that in this store. Chat with John and you'll be a happier customer.

I only get to Minnesota a few times a year, but this will be must-visit destination from now on.

This is a place to go when you're looking for the latest beer release or hard to come by beer.
But what puts this one past the other great beer stores in the area is the welcoming and friendly atmosphere of the store. Relatively speaking, it's a fairly small store, but everything is arranged effectively, and there's always somebody nearby to give assistance should you need it.

I get greeted by the guy behind the counter and at first glance it looks like nothing really all that special. Then I turn around and see a huge wall of Belgians. Really impressive. The coolers are filled with nice craft beers. A fellow working to fill the shelves told me he had some new beers in that weren't on the shelf yet and I bought some from the cooler. They are also up on the latest in the beer world which seems to grow every day so if your looking for certain brewer or something you had on tap, but can't quite remember the name they can usually steer you to what you are looking for. Picked up some Bells Hopslam the other day best price in the Twin Cities.

Awesome! I first stopped at Dennis Brothers a year ago while visiting MN since moving to Denver. I was recently there again for my 2nd Annual MN Beer Haul.

Since searching this place out last year, my MN friends say they prefer Dennis Brothers when they are buying quality beer and liquor too.

One wall has a ton of imports. Then there are several micro brews. There was a whole end cap of Southern Tier 22oz bottles. Lots of shelf space of even more bombers. Plenty of goodies in the coolers and several 6packs to choose from.

I could have spent much longer (and much more $$) here. It was hard to keep to my 2 suitcase limit. John was able to make a few suggestions to me, set me up with some bottles really to my taste, and even help me bring everything out to the truck.

Service is over the top! Superb selection! Minnesota's destination liquor store! See ya again next year!

If you ever find yourself in Cottage Grove, MN, or anywhere in MN for that matter, take a moment and stop by Dennis Brothers Liquor Store.*

Take a right as soon as you enter, and you'll find yourself in beer mecca, with shelves on either side that stretch to the back of the store, though ½ of one side is devoted to cooler space. Standouts along the wall include 5-6 offerings from Cantillon, 5 from Dieu Du Ciel (including Peche), Fantome, Bell's, the entire Southern Tier lineup and all that Surly has to offer in the aforementioned cooler. Towards the back there is a small singles collection that can be mixed and matched into the 6 pack of your choice for $8.49

One of the owners, John, approached me as I was perusing the selection, and offered assistance. He was extremely knowledgeable & helpful, two qualities I'm not used to encountering in liquor stores. Since I was vacationing in Minnesota, and had to return to New York in less than 48 hours, John helped me whittle down my list to a few standout beers for drinking that night, and few more that thankfully survived the flight home in my luggage.

Prices were extremely reasonable. Had I been staying longer, I easily would have dropped $300 on my visit. As it was, I could only spend $60. I'll definitely be back next time I find myself in Minnesota.

* Note - you'll need more than a moment, as this place has one of the most impressive collections I've ever seen.

There's a small section of single beers to create a mixed six with and there was a big collection of bombers all together, and quite a few 4 and 6 packs to choose from. The selection was filled with good and interesting beers, and though I don't know about what all gets distributed to MN, they seemed to have most of it. The service was what was most impressive. That is about cost what I am told. I met both owners, John and Steve. Two of the most genuine guys you will ever meet. They care about their customers, know their beers and are just fun to chat with. Nice selection of beers here, but limited in comparison to other metro stores. Store is really clean and neatly organized. I picked up several different goodies based upon curiosity and recommendations from John. I picked up a bottle of Hennepin and set it on the counter with my other goodies while I continued to shop. While doing so, John came over and said he saw I picked up some Hennepin. He hands me a Hennepin goblet and says I should drink it in style. Free glass. That's never happened to me anywhere else, ever. From what I saw, prices looked to be very competitive to anywhere else I've been. Especially the Founders on this afternoon. Steve and another guy carried my two boxes out to the car for me as well. Also, I had my two year old son with me and they gave him a couple of suckers which he loved. I love their full selection of Rogue, Southern Tier, Bell's and a few others that you can't always find the right style of. If you make it the the cities or live close its worth the drive!

I do quite a bit of traveling for work and try to seek out great bars, stores, brewpubs, etc. This is one of the best beer stores I've ever been to. Dennis Brother's selection was great. This place has a great selection of 750ml bottles. Avery, Jolly Pumpkin, Mikkeller, Great Divide, Cantillion were just a few of the bombers on the shelves.
I mentioned to John (one of the owners) that I was from Philadelphia, after a patron stated a good chance of Vikings over Eagles in the playoffs. John and I talked for a bit and he suggested some great stuff.
I picked up a Boulevard Brewing Saison-Brett and a Great Divide Old Ruffian. After that, John pulled out some limited stock stuff from the back! He brought out a Chico Estate Sierra Nevada Wet Hop, Boulevard Brewing Bourbon Barrel Quad, and a bottle of Big Sky Brewing's Biere de Noel (A Belgian Strong Dark Ale: only 1800 bottles produced) I picked up the Wet Hop and Big Sky and we talked a bit about Surly Brewing. He gave me a free Surly pint glass to go along with my purchase.
I must say that it's a breathe of fresh air to be able to talk to people who are genuinely excited about beer and I'll definitely be back to Dennis Brother's on my next trip to Minnesota.

Stopped by yesterday on a trip to Minneapolis.

The selection was great! The only things I couldn't find were unavailable in Minnesota or out of season.

The guy who was working at the time (I can't remember his name) was very helpful! He recommended beers that seemed compatable with my preferences, and even brought my beer out to my car. I even got a free Surly pint glass with my purchase.

I managed to spend $95 and it was worth every penny! Their prices seemed very fair.

Dennis Brothers is great and was worth going out of my way to visit! I'll be back every time I visit the Minneapolis area!

Me and my buddy took a trip up to the Twin Cities this weekend to do two of our favorite things: play disc golf and buy/drink good beer. After playing 27 holes in E. Bethel, we decided to go to Cottage Grove to play the Oakwood Park course and visit Dennis Brothers. We had a little trouble finding the place, but a quick and helpful call to store put us in the right direction.

When we entered the store, we were basically given the red carpet treatment, as my buddy noted. Steve and John introduced themselves, took interest in our trip, and sympathized with us over the IA beer laws, which do not allow for a place like this to exist. They had a very nice selection of Bell's, Southern Tier, Moylans, New Holland, Surly, Rouge, Avery, and many others that I can't recall. Their selection of Bell's and Southern Tier was more complete from what we saw at the Blue Max a day earlier. The Blue Max was definitely a great store, but the service and selection did not compare to Dennis Brothers. They knew we were excited for the Surly, so they let us sample some Furious and threw in 2 Surly pint glasses, score! As others mentioned, they carefully packaged up our purchases, and even carried them out to the car. Not only was this the best service I had ever received at a liquor store, but probably the best retail service I have ever received hands down. We will definitely be back when we make this trip next year, possibly sooner!

Wow. This place was certainly worth the drive. My girlfriend and I went to Minneapolis for a Twins game and a beer at Town Hall and made a point to drive all the way to Cottage Grove just to visit this store before heading back to Rochester.

Upon entering, we were greeted by the co-owner, Steve, who was very friendly and helpful. When I told him I heard about his establishment from BA, he made it clear that he enjoys having all BA's in his store and even recognized a recent post I made about Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere, which they had, and I subsequently purchased. He was very helpful and answered all my questions between talking about different brews and recommendations.

Great selection here, probably the best I've seen in Minnesota. Plenty of beers we can't find in Rochester including Mikkeller, Jolly Pumpkin, Great Divide, and a new one to the area - Moylans! I picked up a bomber of Hopsickle, as I was very excited to see it. Also made a variety sixer for only $7.99, which was a great price and made for a nice selection. Plenty of Belgians, an expanded domestic selection... pretty much something for everyone.

After paying, Steve threw in a couple free glasses - a Maredsous chalice and a Saison DuPont glass, which was great because I had gotten a DuPont in my mixed sixer.

An all around great beer-buying experience, and I will make it a point to return to this store whenever possible. If you're in the area - GO.
