I visited de Garre 3 times in the 2 days that I spent in Bruges. First off it really is in the smallest alley ever. Even with GPS and a lot of looking we couldn't find it. The lady at the Bottle Shop around the corner helped us.

We arrived around 2 in the afternoon on a weekday and the place was packed. An older local couple waved us over to their table, which he had some great conversations about Belgium. So as far as atmosphere this couple & the old world vibe of the place made it an instant 5.

The house beer van de garre triple was amazing, my favorite beer I had in Belgium besides lambics & guezes. We had a couple of these wonderful 11% beers which they serve a small cup of cheese with, that was almost as good as the beer.

Prices are great too. Also had some Pannepot there.

So to find it, start in the Markt square facing the Belfy, turn left. You will find it on the short block between Markt & Burg Squares. on the right side there is a very narrow alley way between a yellow chocolate store & a red store. I believe there was a sign that says cookies over the alley.

As mentioned in other reviews, blink and you might miss this tucked away gem. Down a narrow little alleyway in between the Markt and the Burg, is this excellent pub.

Small and cozy, we squeezed our way up the tight steep stairs to the 2nd floor and settled in for a glass of the delicious house Tripel. (How I wish I could have bought an empty glass to take home too)

I have to plead a bit of ignorance, because I came for the house beer only, and didn't even bother looking at the menu. But, I know the selection is solid.

Service was friendly and quick, even though they were fairly busy. In fact, I swear the girl that was pulling great drafts from the taps was maybe 18 years old, and she already had the skill mastered.

Fair and standard pricing.

Wonderful atmosphere and top notch beers definitely make the effort to come here well worth it.

Nice place, very well hidden in the center of Brugge. Usually they put up a sign, which makes it easier to find, because the only way to the bar is through a tiny alley. Many locals there, who seemed to feel pretty much at home there, which is always a goog signal for me to drink there, because it doesn’t seem to be a tourist rip-off.
Of course we ordered a "Triple der Garre", which they offer exclusively only in that particular place. The beer was really pleasant, and gets served with some young cheese, which goes well with the beer.
The atmosphere in the place was enjoyable, people were chatting and drinking, got pretty loud later in the evening. Staminee de Garre has a country-sytle look, which somehow gets represented by its visitors. There is a maximum of three "Triple de Garre" you are allowed to drink, but this should not be a real concern, because after those three you should be able to fall asleep easily.

Amazing little bar that will take you away from the bustle of tourists, and let you slow down to drink a glass of Belgium's finest. Went in the middle of the day (mid February), and it wasn't crowded at all. Plenty of beers to choose from, but I--like others--would definitely recommend the house tripel. Great experience, and it'll be my first stop the next time I'm in town.

The highlight of any Bruges visit. Amazing bar, set deep in a hidden alley. A few high quality beers on tap, none of which can compare to their house tripel. Get it. Several times. Buy a magnum, too. They don't sell the glasses, so don't be a dick and steal one. They literally count them and will chase you down if they notice one missing from your table. Not worth it. Just go and enjoy one of the most amazing places in the world of beer.

Not to give up on our quest to discover new beer adventures in Bruges, we went searching for Staminee De Garre. This was in one of Chris' guidebooks as an old pub on the smallest street in Bruges. They are known for having a special De Garre tripel that is made for them and only available at the pub, which prompted our quest. We wandered in circles around and around a large block looking for the place with the aid of a paper map and two different mapping apps on our cell phones. When we were about to give up, one of our group managed to get the directions from a cranky chocolatier (that likely gets this request often) and we were off around the block again! The opening to the "street" is really a tiny alley that looks like a store front entrance, truly a hidden little place. Walking into this street, I felt like I had just been transported to Diagon Alley or perhaps Platform 9 3/4 from Harry Potter. Very strange. The pub within instantly transported us to a lost time.

The special De Garre beer was served in an enormous bowl glass that looked more suitable to goldfish than a drink! We initially requested to share one, but that is not allowed, so we were all served a smaller and easier to handle version of the glass. The beer was 11% ABV, but dry and drinkable with a slightly sharp finish, and was served with a small bowl of cheese cubes. This place is fun and well worth the effort to find it!
