This is a lighter looking Märzen, coppery or golden in color indeed, and has a big white head and very active carbonation.
The aroma is not as sweet as might be expected, but has a rather strong accent on the hops (herbal/minty and a bit pungent, lemon-like too) and a slightly sour and juicy fruity quality to it. Right beneath is a big body of grainy and slight caramelly malt. This nose is as sweet as it is spicy as it is sour; but it is also somewhat modest and dry and remains a bit weak.
The flavor starts of with a combination of moderate sweetness and a decent hoppy bite. A watery and kind of neutral flavor follows in which traces of banana are present. The finish is dry and puts all emphasis on the grainy tasting malt and lemony hops. A bitter aftertaste lingers for quite some time.
Mouthfeel becomes somewhat lacking in carbonation shortly, but does have the proper weight.
An interesting beer considering style. Almost as if you are drinking a blend of Märzen and something like a Helles or a Maibock.
