I have been to Mountain State Brewing Company about 4 times now and the Cold Trail Ale they serve is my absolute favorite. This beer exemplifies what an ale should be...light-bodied, drinkable and an excellent taste through and through. I can't wait to go back to Maryland to drink a few more of these. Simply love it!!

This is a very clean beer. It pours a very light see through amber with almost no head. I got a lot of citrus in the nose and some coriander in the background. The flavor followed the aroma in being very fruity crisp and a fair amount of coriander. It had a slight bitterness to it, but I think the place I had it at just had it a bit too cold. Very light brew that is not usually my style but a respectable beer I would recommend for folks who like Belgium whites.

This is plain and simple, a really good beer. It's pretty light on flavor, but that's okay. You don't expect an IPA when you drink a blonde ale. If you do, stop drinking blonde ales, you will be disappointed when you get something that is a blonde ale. Don't get my wrong though, this isn't a macro brew, completely devoid of flavor.

It's got a sort of woody flavor to it. Sort of like the smell of cedar. It's got a pretty smooth mouth feel, not too harsh. It has a good after taste, not disimilar to the flavor it has while it's in your mouth, which is appreciated.

I'm really not doing this beer justice. Here... let me try putting this a different way. You know how bottled water tastes like nothing? That'll be our macro brews. You know how town water can be rich in flavor, not necessarily good? That'll be a beer that's just too harsh, or too... something. You know how water from the tap in a rural home has a clean refreshing flavor? That's this beer.

a - dark honey in color, one finger head is white and stable. Appears to be a lot of carbonation.

s - citrus and grainy. Snow smell?

t - it has a wonderful sweetness to it, like syrup at first. Hints of lemon rind and honey Ends in a well balanced hop flavor.

m - high carbonation, creamy in mouth, but a little acidic on the after taste.

o - A nice beer, one probably better suited for the winter than the middle of the summer, but I like the flavor profile.

Had this beer on tap at Private Quinn's Tavern in Harper's Ferry WV.

Appearance - Nice yellow appearance with minimal head.

Smell - can't remember so I'll give it a 3.5 instead of making up something.

Taste - Remember this being slightly crisp with some decent flavor and slightly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel - ok

Overall - a decent pale ale but nothing special. It is easy to drink and has some unique qualities to it.

Growler from brewery. Pours a medium yellow/golden color with a frothy white head, decent lacing. Aroma is light and sweet, grains, and a hint of yeastiness. Flavor is sweet malts, a hint of hops. Very light on the palate, very drinkable but not great.

Appearance: clear golden yellow in color with a white 1/2" head that falls quickly. Some moderate lacing paints the glass.

Smell: very little aroma here as only some malt sweetness and a hint of lemon comes through to the nose.

Taste: light malt profile with some grass, hint of lemon zest, and some golden apple sweetness comes through.

Mouthfeel: light in body. Crisp throughout. Relatively clean aftertaste.

Drinkability: very easy to drink beer with a milder flavor profile. Refreshing and several of these can be had in a single session.
