Ever since the new laws in alabama passed to allow high alcohol content beer this store has been leading the charge.
They have a new cooler they plan to be devoted exclusively to the new craft beer in there wine isle, with another long for of mixed macro and craft beer on the other side of the store.
The staff is very helpful with a decent knowledge. They seem to be devoted to learning about and trying the new beers.
I picked up some Kassell Rouge and some Saison dupont the other day. They seem to be selling so much they are selling out quickly.
The value is reasonable for alabama, it's good to see this store really taking some initiative in regards to it's beer. And it Shows!

I stopped in on the way down to Auburn for a tailgate party. I was hoping for a better selection, but it looks like they have downsized their commitment to craft beer. I picked up some Terrapin Golden Ale and Sweetwater IPA. Other options were pretty slim -- some Left Hand Ginger Beer, a lot of SA, and a few other odds and ends. Service was not available, but no big surprise in a grocery store. Pricing was reasonable, six packs only. Best bet in the area, if you have the time, is the Diplomat over on Highway 31.

This grocery store used to contain the best beer selection of any grocery store in Birmingham. They used to have one and a half coolers full of specialty beer including German imports. I went recently and there is only one cooler full and the German beers were noticably missing (except for a lone four-pack of Ayinger). The "macro section" on the left hand of the store still has a lot of beer, including the newest brewery to distribute in Alabama, Left Hand Brewing Co. The beer I was looking for that I have purchased twice before here, Jubel, was not here, and I had to go to Western in Mountain Brook to find it. That Western just increased its beer selection.
In the past, this store has had something that no other beer store in the city will have (like some Flying Dog K-9 Cruiser two winters ago). At that time, Scott, the beer/wine guy, said he asks his distributors for everything available to be sold in Alabama. I don't know if that is still the case now that there is less space devoted to specialty beer.
Prices are reasonable. They only sell six-packs.

this place is right by my house, so it is very convient. if you go here, make sure you go to the right side of the store- that is where the "better selection" is (right next to the wine isles). though there are some good items on the left side as well, i think the sweetwater and sierra nevada stuff might be on the right side. they carry left hand, sweetwater, mendocino, flying dog, rogue, and few others that we can get under outdated laws. they pretty much have anything that the distributors will carry in the state, which is not a whole lot. they are a supporter of free the hops, which is also a plus. prices are really good for the selection that they have. i don't think they allow you to make your own six pack, which might turn some people to the diplomat (which is near by and allows you to get singles/build your own sixer). but all in all, this is very underated beer store, and for the prices, it is very tuff to beat. if you are fimiliar with area and know how to get here, make sure you check out this place.
