I visited the Whole Foods Market in Jericho, NY (just north of the LI Expressway- on Rt. 106) today to escape the usual madness that prevails in Huntington, NY before the 4th of July. I was stunned by the vast array of fresh and prepared foods that were ready for my purchase at a reasonable price.

The beer section was mostly cold, with stacks of Ommegang/Brooklyn Brewery on the sides, and it contained a great selection of Trappist, Belgian, French, American, German, Czech, and other ales/beers. I was stunned by the great prices (i.e. 750ml Ommegang-$4.99) and I liked the little descriptive notes on some of the selections. I also saw a several great items such as the Westmalle Triple, St. Bernardus, Fantome Saison, Rochefort, and growlers of Rogue ales.

The truly great feel of the Whole Foods was the positive attitude of the workers who asked me if I was happy with their service (!) and the dynamic selection of foods. This is a great store for any beer lover who also treasures fine foods at a reasonable price (steaks, sushi, deli, fish, etc.).

Oh yes, there was not a single selection of American macro-brew on hand and the Whole Foods obviously has a beer following to support its great selection.

As a sucker for all things Whole Foods and as a person who finds himself travelling about on Long Island every summer, it was a no brainer that I would end up checking this place out.

The beer selection here is moderate in size, but makes up for this by being well selected and power packed with quality selections. Think all stars like Stone, Ommegang, Chimay, Dupont, Brooklyn, Blue Point.

The draw here obviously is the extensive and high quality selection of cheese, fish, meat, veggies, breads and all things high quality food. Put the food posibilities together with the respectable beer options and you have a fine destination for any beer focused foodie to visit and shop at.

This is the place where I go when I want to pick up a quick six or a bomber of something good because its only a couple of minutes away. Granted the selection is not hugh (think a 15 foot long super market self filled 2/3 with sixers and 1/3 bombers) but there is deffinately a high rate of turn over due to it being a pretty popular food store. No BMC products here just macros and imports which is also a plus. I wouldnt go out of my way for this selection but if you live with in 10 minutes its a great place to get good fresh micros.

Stopped by Whole Foods one day to pick up lunch and discovered they had a beer section. I was a bit surprised as the Whole Food I used to go to when I lived in Alston, MA didn't have a beer selection. They don't have the largest selection compared with a beer store but for a supermarket it was nice. It's not such much the selection but the quality that really suprised me. No American macros to speak of. They had the NY & LI native beers (Bluepoint, Brooklyn, Ommegang), Harpoon, a handful of organic brews, Dogfishhead, some other not so easy to find micros, a good selection of Belgians in 750ml, some English and Japanese beers. I had to rate the service a 3 since it is a supermarket and don't think they had assigned a person to the beer area but the employees seem friendly enough. Though the store is pricey in general, the beer prices are what I expect them to be. A great store to pick up some real good seafood & meat and a decent beer as well.

Locared just north of the LIE in Jericho (near Hicksville). I stopped in here for the first time a while ago and had no idea the beer selection would be so good! I was cruising through the place, and noticed large stacked pyrimids of....no, not Bud and Coors, but Blue Point, Southampton, and even a slightly smaller stack of Post Road. Shockingly, I noticed no tyical macros of any kind. For a supermarket, this is quite rare. Great selection of 500's, 750's, bombers, and a wonderful array of both international and American craft. Lots of Belgian and British imports too. Brew prices weren't bad either, especially considering everything else in the store is a bit overpriced. All around a great trip, they have a lot of hard to find stuff here in general, as well as a good focus on local products and produce.

Checked this place out on my way home from work.

This place has an amazing selection for a supermarket. The selection included four or five Avery selections, four or five Weyerbacher selections, several Southampton selections, several St. Peter's selections, Allagash, Aventinus, at least two different eisbocks, Ommegamg, Hennepin, some rare vintage ciders, etc. All are in the cold case as well. No macros.

Cosmetically, all the beers seemed relatively fresh. I have a feeling they move the stock because I saw several patrons, in the 10 minutes I was there, picking up a few Belgians and imperial stouts.

Worth a visit. The meat department is awesome too!
