Wanted to go through the gambit of Hefeweizens so when I made a homebrew I knew which I liked best and what I could do to make it better next time.
A - Opaque golden yellow from yeast in suspension. Full white head that doesn't subside quickly. Strong lacing until the last drink.
S - Very phenolic spice with a bread and yeast aroma. Some grain, wheaty, and some light bananas present.
T - Strong phenolic clove flavor with yeast, bread, and wheat character on top. Has subtle hints of banana that settle out after the clove. Some sweetness with the spiciness but almost no bitterness. Spice from the phenolic covers the light hops bitterness.
M - Lighter mouth-feel. High carbonation. light body make this brew refreshing a good summer brew.
Overall, this is a nice summer brew when it's too hot for a heavier beer. Not my favorite Hefe but I can understand how it's stood the test of time and is on shelves all across America. It's a good style representative with the high phenolic notes and a smooth bready finish.

Sampled last night on 7/21/14. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a "Cheers-Boston' handled glass stein.
Pours a hazy golden pour with a good 2- finger thick head that lasted a while. Left lots of lacing when sipped. Smells of wheat with sweet orange and spice. The taste was pretty much the same and on the sweet side. Very easy to drink and no bad aftertaste. Hefeweizens are all over the board and this one is one of the best!

Poured a nice deep golden color with two fingers of fluffy white head. Quite nice in appearance and very true to form. Scents of clove-like phenols, banana-like esters, hints of bubblegum and some doughy, bready wheat malt. A good aroma that is true to style, though not standout. Flavor begins with a nice sweet banana flavor with hints of clove and grainy malt balancing. In the middle light bubblegum flavors join the banana and clove and add depth. Finish is semi-sweet, with notes of banana, clove, bubblegum and grainy malt. Aftertaste is grainy wheat malt and clove. A good, though basic hefeweizen flavor profile. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with high carbonation and a smooth, creamy feel. Quite pleasant and very true to style. Overall this is a good basic hefeweizen that hits the main notes of the style, though it doesn't do a great deal to standout. Still a nice beer and very refreshing in Summer.
