Good beer, head was outstanding and lingered. Light flavor but still plenty of it. The sweetness hit first and then faded into a little malt with ever ever so lightly a bit(a little bit) of bitterness that balanced this beer well

I had a 500ml can of this but had previously had it on tap and in bottles in Germany. The head on this beer is exceptional. Sometimes you get a head on a beer and it's unwelcome, because it's too bitter. Not so with this one, the large head and the amber beer beneath merge to create a very pleasant and smooth drinking experience. As others have said, the banana taste and even possibly treacle hints spring forth but in a velvet way, so that each sip invites the next and each point from smelling the drink as you raise it to your mouth, sipping it and then the aftertaste are all as pleasant as each other. The only slight downside to this beer is the carbonation. It's just a little too fizzy, imo, but still an excellent beer.

(review #800 - 11.2 oz bottle, best before 11/14 - poured into a tulip pint)

A: only slightly cloudy, amber in color... beautiful pillowy cream-colored suds - long-lasting... retains a cap the whole way down, but no firm lacing... 4

S: rich, proofing-doughy aromas the depth of which are fantasmic, bit of a lightly-browned roll crust... banana esters are there but really faint and/or pushed to the background... the spice is clean and light and is more of a gentle highlight than brash... overall, the smell just pops as it always has... 4.5

T: doughy... softly grassy and grainy - these flavors seem to linger, enhanced by the residual hop (but more so yeast) bitterness in the aftertaste... a bit of muddy citrus in the aftertaste as well, maybe even some tobacco, but somewhat muted on esters and phenolics (or simply well-reigned)... seems like it's missing out on what sweet nuances alcohol could bring to it to enhance its flavor dynamics... 4.25+

M: silky suds wash full into the front of the palate, while the body has a porous sort of medium roundness to it... feels a bit heavier than it actually is... like the foam, pillowy... 4.25

O: this might very well be the first hefeweizen I ever tried (c. '03-'04)... had a few better ones since, but this one does stick out among the pack - could easily pick it out in a blind tasting... probably could only have a couple of these before moving on to something else - a Mass of this would be folly...

Poured from an 11.2oz bottle with a best before date of 05/15; into a pint glass.
Appearance - a very hazy, overcast orange, with a creamy off-white head. Lacing is fair.
Smell - sweet banana bread and faint citrus.
Taste - more Hawaiian bread as opposed to the banana bread in the nose; lacking just enough flavor to keep from giving a 4, but a very nice hefeweizen nonetheless.
Feel - creamy feel upfront, which leads to a mild sweetness and then a tangy bitterness. Easy to drink and enough complexity to make it interesting!
Overall - some better options if you're seeking out a hefeweizen, but this is not one to overlook!
