I love this one, drink it at the bar downstairs while in Germany at the hotel. They serve it from a .5l bottle, the head on these are huge and take some time to dissipate some, during consumption while the glass is tipped the entire side of the glass is covered with lacing. Smell and taste are pretty much like others with the banana and some citrus. Taste is awesome, and you can find it ANYWHERE

This one will serve my memories in Germany well.

t - tart bannana goodness, slight sweetness on the front end.

m - heavily carbonated. this is a well balanced hefeweizen.

d - bannana notes are kept in check much more than on other hefeweizen i have had.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into a nonic pint.

Appearance: Opaque, pear juice color w/ huge, creamy head that dissipated rather quickly. The head was initially so huge that my 19 oz glass couldn't contain it. Impressive!

Smell: Fruity, some apple and pineapple with a citrus twist.

Taste: Tangy pear mixed with lemon flavor, somewhat sweet. None of the banana or vanilla that I expected. Very slight bitter finish that counters the sweetness some.

Mouthfeel: Creamy but moderate carbonation, a little syrupy.

Drinkability: Perhaps too sweet and syrupy for me to want more than one in a single session. I love that it didn't leave a bitter aftertaste.

Comments: My first ever hefeweizen. Definitely would buy again, especially at the low price I found it. Not as much banana or vanilla as I was expecting from a hefe. Much creamier than any other beer I've tried to this point.

330ml bottle poured into pint glass jan17 2010

A very cloudy peachy orange with a big white head after a gentle pour. lots of carbonation and the foam has great retention and leaves a few patches of lace

S like a good hefe there's plenty of banana and clove with a little yeast, some spice and perhaps some lemon

T not far from the smell and that's not a bad thing

M nice and light with decent carbonation, fairly thin but not to bad

D my only complaint is the cold weather outside, this would be perfect for a hot sunny day

I don't have a bad thing to say about this beer, a good example of the style. I could drink this all day and I just might come spring.

Pours a beautiful hazy yellow orange peaked with a tall white foamy head.

Smells of the cloves, citrus and bananas typical for the style, though the yeasty aromas are muted in this particular brew.

The taste of the classic Paulaner is packed with citrus notes. Lemons as and oranges pop out onto the palate first, accompanied with pleasant carbonation followed by the bananas, though not as prominent as in the nose.

The grainy mouthfeel give this beer a pleasantly medium body paired with the low ABV make for a pleasingly drinkable Weizen.

A - Pours a very nice, cloudy pale amber that is on the darker end of hefeweizens. Nice billowing frothy head of 2 inches on an aggressive pour. Zero lacing. Served at 46F.

S - Aromas are strong - spicy clove, grainy malt and yeast. Excellent.

T- Taste is a bit underwhelming at first - on the watery side, but it is fruity with a nice balance of grainy malt. No hop presence as expected, but the wheat gives just a hint of fruity citrus. Overall it is well balanced and quite tasty - just wish the flavors were a bit more concentrated, especially in regards to banana, which is very mild and easy to miss.

M - As I said, a touch on the watery side. Would have preferred a bit more creaminess here, or even the firmness that wheat can give.

D - Very high, given the ABV and overall excellent balance. Definitely won't fatigue the palate, and I had no problem downing the 1 pt .9 oz bottle quickly... if the flavors were turned up a notch, this would be a go to hefe, but for me I prefer some others such as Weihenstephaner.

$8.89 a sixer at Nikki's, Providence RI

Bottle art of some country folk having a good time. Opaue, glowing honey color with a large white head. Skim retention and sloppy retention. Aroma contains the usual suspects; banana and clove phenols but with some yeast/wheat farmy tones.

Tastes like banana puddin' and clove. Clove dominant and unfortunately I'm a banana dominant kinda guy. There's a yeasty sour in back which I'm not a fan of. I'd stick a lemon in it if I had one.

Pours cloudy dark straw with a billowing head that bubbles nicely, but the lacing is nearly non-existent.

The predominant smell in the nose is the sweet malt and the banana--I could have done with a bit more clove--and again, the taste is on the sweet and citrusy side for sure, and ending on a heavily yeasty note. I think a perfect example of the style would be more balanced, and I thought the mouthfeel was a little watery and syrupy, but I did enjoy this and would definitely purchase again if I was in the mood for something a bit sweeter.

Had on tap the the Frankfurt international airport.
Oh what a joy it is arriving in a land where you can get something better than Canadian or Coors on tap at your local aiport! Just had a nice pint poured for me, presenting it's big, luscious, creamy white head for all to see. The beer itself is a hazy amber in color, with light orange light seeping through, classic Weiss, with nice head retention and a fairly aggressive visible carbonation. The nose of the beer is packed with banana, similar to a Hacker Pschorr yet less sickly sweet and more balanced by nice assertive notes of black pepper and clove. The taste backs up the banana bomb nose, adding more spicy, peppery notes of clove, coriander and a doughy rye characteristic coming through on the finish.
For an airport beer, I really can't complain, the drinkability is (and will be) very easy from here in!

The beer poured a dark yellow color with a billowing head. The aroma is very yeasty and fruity with a tickle of clove as well--very inviting.

The wheat introduces a a chewiness on the palate, but the flavor is light and refreshing. The flavors are pure hefeweizen, fruity up front followed by spiciness at the end with wheat character blending it all together. To me me this beer defines the style, and I very much enjoy it.

Bottled on date 7/09. Pours a cloudy, orangish yellow with a big puffy white head. Aromas of lemon peel, clove and yeast esters. Light bodied with high carbonation level yet a smooth finish. This beer has nice subtle wheat flavors. Good drinkability.

*Wondering if I got a bad batch

A - Poured 2 fingers of strong white head. A bit cloudy, which is understandable. Some lacing, and even some continued carbonation. Was the color of varnished pine.

S - Wheat, tons of it. Some yeast. Basically the quintessential weissbier. Smells dry, like roasted tea leaves, some flowery esters.

T - Grassy notes. A hint of lemon. Strong apple-cider vinegar taste. Fortunately the aftertaste only lasts about 3 seconds.

M - Disappointing. Loose. Watery. Needs at least more carbonation.

D - Simple. Easy to drink, but too simple flavor-wise. Needs more hops and malts. Just watery enough that it goes down easy. Would like to try on tap.

An excellent standard for hefeweizens. Easy to drink and flavorful. With a lemon garnish or without, it won't dissapoint if you're a fan of this style. Not terribly complex, but perfectly balanced and supremely drinkable.

A - Gold yellow, white head.
S - usual banana clove, wheat
T - smooth and full flavors, very evenly balanced. Clove bite at the start, Banana aftertaste. An even wheat like flavor across the board connects them all together.
M - clean, bubbly.
D - excellent. A few of these and some German fare, and you're all set.

A - 12 oz bottle from local grocery store. Nice fluffy white head that retains throughout. Light haziness you can see through. Light yellow color.

S - smell of yeast, banana, bubble gum. Not strong but pleasent smell

T - Taste of banana and bubble gum with tart apple-like finish. Very light good tasting beer.

M - Good carbonation and light on the tongue. Not as heavy as I would think a true hefe would be

D - Very easy drinkable beer. Nice for those hot summer days or just sitting back on a Sunday afternoon.

a hef that isn't as bold but in turn quite refreshing. doesn't have any overwhelming sweet but in turn doesn't have as broad a palate range. nose of citrus. very mild. banana seems to be the least of which to think about. nice apple and clove. wheat character there with a crisp finish. simple. not particularly aggressive by any means but proper none the less. a bit thinner than i would like.

1pt 9fl.oz bottle marked 06/09 EDIT: 80th review. What a good beer to ring it in. This was one of the first beers that got me into the craft scene.

A- Big fluffy white head that stays around in at least the form of a 1/4'' pillow. It leaves lacing all the way down. The beer its self is a pretty much totally hazed over brownish orange. Pretty much the color of apple cider. Its a beautiful beer.

S- Banana, apple, clove and wheat. Its really nice but could be stronger.

T- Super refreshing and mild. Bubblegum is big as is spicy wheat and a juicy fruitiness.

M- Nice and smooth. Finishes really clean and juicy. Very thirst quenching. Its fluffy and light with a slight bite from the carbonation.

D- Really drinkable as this style should be. This is one my ultimate session beers.

Cloudy greyish yellow pour with a small but persistent head.
Aroma shows doughy wheat, with some cloves, but little in the way of banana.
Flavours are similar, with sweet wheat and a hint of cloves. The finish is somewhat metallic.
Great high carbonation and medium full body.

Pours a murky pink tinged dark orange with billowing meringue-like cream colored head. Smell: soft banana and clove, tangy wheat, husk, slight bubblegum. Taste: less fruity, husk and tangy wheat, touch of slimy unripe banana. Mouthfeel: low carbonation for the style, which makes it thinner and less creamy than desired. Overall a nice hefe, but doesn't stand out from the other big German names.

Poured from 16.9 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: cloudy orange with an enormous fluffy white head.

Smell: clean, refreshing, citrusy wheat with even a little hint of apple. Very nice.

Taste: great wheat taste with hints of citrus and apple. The latter is not a flavor I normally associate with a Hefeweizen, but it really is great in this instance.

Mouthfeel: on the light side of medium, but quite creamy in texture. Yum!

Drinkability: fantastic. Paulaner Hefeweizen is going to have to become a regular in my fridge.

Normally I'm not a big fan of wheat beers unless the weather is really warm. Guess what? It's 90'F here is southern California in freakin November.

Of all the Hefe-Weizens, this one is by far the best. Pours a bit cloudy as you would expect with barely any head.

Taste is light bodied with citrus notes and a crisp finish. A terrific session beer.

12 oz bottle into Sam Adams lager glass.

Pours cloudy pale copper, with a big two-finger off-white head. Retention is decent, but the head settles down quickly enough into a thin off-white cap.

Nose is fresh-baked sourdough, clove, citrus, very light vanilla.

Tastes of big clove and spicy yeast, fresh baked sourdough and tangy wheat. No real banana notes, and the vanilla is so muted that it only really comes out in the exhale. Finish is very clean.

Mouthfeel is a bit creamy, but still with an edge of bite from the carbonation.

Drinkability is typically high, a result of both the style and the quality. Flavorful but light on the palate. Typical German quality.

A well rounded hefeweizen.

Light straw and slightly cloudy, with a great long lasting head.
Smells spicy a tiny bit of banana smell.
Tastes of wheat, banana and spices.
Has a lot of carbonation but it works.

A great hefeweizen I would drink again.

12oz bottle into a paulaner tall footed wheat glass. Good inch tall white head, settles down to 1/2" and stays that way, held up by good vigorous tiny-beaded carbonation. Lots of thick lace left behind. Lovely pale golden orangy hue. Bananas in the nose with a light orange rind bitterness. Flavor follows with tangy wheat malt, lightly soapy, some banana, nice citrus and a little spicy clove. The mouthfeel is amazing on this beer, the vigorous carbonation lands in the mouth effervescent like champagne and instantly turns creamy smooth with the swallow. Finishes clean and refreshing, so easy to drink, low alcohol. I love this beer. Classic!

Poured from a bottle into a goblet. Beer is orangish and cloudly, high haze. Forms a white tight head, falls away relatively quickly leaving very little lacing on glass. Carbonation moderate to high.

Smell is subtle, some fruity esters, a little banana and some wheat character, smells good, smell fades with head. No hop character that I can detect.

Beer is smooth. Flavor is mild, some sweetness, some bitterness from the wheat at the back end of the mouth. Cereal flavor. Some yeasty character in the mouth as well. Tastes good. I love wheat beers. Beer is pretty thin, as expected, high attenuated. Drinkability high.
