I was pleasantly surprised to see this in Carrefour; I was there to look for the Leffe Brune
and ended up purchasing a Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel and KristallKlar weizens beers.
I tried this beer in my 50cl Schneider Weiss weizen glass; the Dunkel Weizen pours out a dark
shade of brown with a typical big white weizen head with average retention. Spices including
cloves and a slight wheat maltiness forms the smell emanating from the opening of the weizen
glass; the spicey smell reminds me very vaguely of the Hoegaarden Witbier smell. The taste
was quite a party for the mouth; for the first time I finally understood the banana taste that
German hefe-weizen drinkers preach of! Perhaps my pellates have matured over time or maybe this
beer is strong on the weizen taste. In addition to the banana taste was the spices and the
wheat malts and very subtle yeastiness; very nice. The body of this beer is slightly off medium
body like any other weizens and there is a light yet apt amount of carbonation giving it a
good mouthfeel; this dunkel weizen is very smooth to drink as well. The after taste was mainly
wheat malts and a slight banana like taste which was again a pleasant experience. All of a
sudden, I am getting curious about the weizenbock style of brewing; I believe an apt mix of the
hefe-weizen and bock brewing style would become my favourite style for German weizens; we'll
see. I am looking forward to try the Aventinus.

This beer is very murky and has lots of carbonation. The head is very thick and stable on top of a brown beer.

Smell of overripe bananas with clove and phenolic from the yeast. The wheat is very noticable and a nice caramellic smell adds to the beers complexity.

Taste has an average dose of banana and clove, layered on the grainy wheat backbone. The dark malts add a caramel and roasty, biscuity touch, even some candisugar, which obviously isn't in there. The yeast is quite fruity and gives a nice extra to the beer. Mouthfeel is a little sticky and somewhat sweet. A nice and decent beer.

Poured on its original weizen glass. Nice cloudy dark brown body with a medium-sized creamy head, which leaves a small lace.
The aromas are of bananas, cloves, chocolate, wheat and caramel. Some other fruity aromas and flavors too. On mouth feels pretty much like the paulaner weiss, only a little more bitter: fruity, high carbonation, wheat, and malt tastes. Drinkability is great, pretty much of an easygoing, refreshing beer.

Purchased in Germany. 500ml bottle with a 02.07 best by date on it.

Pours a very cloudy dark brown with some hints of amber. The head is two fingers tall, and fades slowly to a to thick cap, leaving behind a solid sheet of foam in the glass.

Smell; this has a solid wheat aroma, with a little clove and bananas. There's a very nice caramel malt presence as well. Pretty much what I would expect in a Dunkel Weizen, but not really outstanding.

Taste; bananas and cloves are present in the flavor along with the wheat and caramel malts. This follows the aroma, but with a hint of bubblegum, and the other flavors are a bit more pronounced than the aroma was.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a very smooth carbonation, and the drinkability is really good. I would have no problem enjoying more than one of these in a night.

A- one of the best pours i have every had. A lovely muddy chocolately copper colour with a toffee fudgy coloured 4 finger head, that poured on like ice cream once the yeast sediment was mixed and poured on top, it couldnt look better to be. Lots of lovely brussel lacing, solid head lasting throughout the beer.

S- Lots of bready malts, slight hints of clove and banana, all very well balanced

T- A bit disappointed here to be honest, all a bit too watery for me, cloves and banana come through but only faintly, tastes a bit diluted. little character and taste doesnt hang about too long after finish,

M- Medium carbonation, a little watery on the finish, maybe slightly thin

D- Drinkability is fine but i would want a dunkel with more character, franziskaner and erdinger beat this one for me. No chocolately notes in taste as i have experienced with other dunkels. An average one!

Just a plain good dunkel weizen.

Naturally color is dark, more like dark amber than pitch black. Nice tan head and some lacing.

Smell is malty, say bisquity, with citrus and banana with some discrete yeast.

Taste is refreshing, medium bodied, somehow bready, smooth. Very good balance between the fruity flavors, the malts and the hops.

Mouthfeel is round, with a lightly bitter finish. Good indeed.

Drinkability is high, I surely will have another.

¡Salud!

Bottle best before 09/06.

A: Hazy, copper-brown; fizzy white-head, quickly dissipates.

S: Bready with hints of pineapple and banana.

T: Bready, banana, hint of pineapple, slight spice.

M: Moderate body with a fairly high carbonation. It'd probably feel creamier if it wasn't so carbonated.

D: Not very stimulating, but fairly drinkable.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy brown with a thick foamy white head into a Paulaner Oktoberfest mug.

Smell - Sweet.

Taste - Lemony taste. Sweet at first leading to a bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Smooth and slightly thick

Drinkability - The sweet taste makes this a very drinkable beer.

Notes - Good. Would have it again.

Looking at the label of Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel I noticed that it looks like the Bavarian version of the Last Supper (or last jug). It pours in a nice amber color with 1-2 fingers of foam, and smells like dark bread. The first taste is of sweet bread with a bitter aftertaste. But the bottle I had was too carbonated which gave it a bad mouthfeel, blocking the tastes. All and all, I have had many better weissbiers.

The colour is shady medium brown with a tint of orange. The brown three finger thick foam sinks slowly down to a thin lid.

The smell is roasted with notes of black pepper, allspice and other spices, some sour wheat dough.

The taste is sweet and somewhat burned. There are spicy notes of allspice, sour wheat notes and some aroma hops. The medium long aftertaste is creamy with notes of dough and some yeast. Very refreshing.

The mouthfeel is creamy with a fresh carbonation; the bubbles are very small.

One of the better weizens that I have come across.

16.9oz, half liter bottle served in a proper weis beer glass. (what’s up with the picture of the can??)

This beer poured a dark muddy cola colored body with a thick, choppy dark off-white speckled head.

The nose was a mix of mild tropical fruits, yeast, wheat and mild chocolate.

Taste was smooth and light bodied. Wheat, mild chocolate, caramel, banana, mild mild tropical fruit, yeast and faint malt. Very mild bitterness that balances the beer yet never comes forward to overpower.

When I was in Germany this was my go to beer at all the places I went in Bavaria. Simply amazing. I brought a couple bottles back and waited a few months to taste them again and the flavor had definitely mellowed and lost a lot of it’s flavor. Still… an amazing beer that it’s a shame they don’t export.

500 ml bottle, bought in Germany. Pours cloudy brown with an enormous offwhite head. Intense banana aroma with notes of caramel, toffee, chocolate and cloves. Refreshing hefe-weissbier flavour, with some extra notes of malts and dark bread, but light-bodied - if blindfolded, I might mistake the flavour for a pale hefe. I wouldn’t mind having this beer as one of my "regulars".

Fresh, smooth, not very complex, just roast and chocolate malt aroma and chocolate malttaste. Medium satisfying mouthfeel, great after Sushi with wasabi and ginger. Pure brown, lace. Dry aftertaste. Some malt, banana and citrus, bit of yeast. Well carbonated. Thanks Mark for bringing back from germany.

Thanks to Tara for bringing back this 500 ml brown bottle from Germany. Best before date 09-05 on front label.
Pours dark brown, cloudiness you expect from a weizen. Large off-white head when poured. Aroma of caramel, and fruit, and strong yeast. Strong yeasty flavor with similar malty, caramel. Wheat flavor I was expecting was less noticeable, overpowered by yeast and heavy sweetness.
Will be interested to try other examples of this style

Pours a hazy cola brown with a nice tan head. Good lace.

A nice malt aroma surprises the nose. This doesn't smell like a DW to me, but it still smells pretty good.

The malt flavor is joined by a hint of banana in the mouth. This is a nice refreshing beer to drink.

A definite wheat beer that is smooth and easy to drink. It has a subdued tart finish indicative of the style.

This is not the best DW I have ever had, but it was worth the money and definitely worth another try.

A beautiful brown copper color. The dense foamy head quickly fades into a thin collar. Carbonation wasn’t as high as I expected. Very enjoyable smell, sweet wheat and and yeast, some nice roasted aspects too. I enjoy the malts and the way they are balanced; the darker malts take off from the beer’s refreshing aspect but maybe add some complexity to the brew. The wheat is less noticeable than in non dunkel hefe weizen, but some citric aspects still appear. A good beer, but I expected more of my first dunkel hefe-weizen.

I hope this is the right beer. I went to Hogan's in Tampa and Paulner HefeWeizen on tap. It was extremely sweet, which I was warned about by others who had tried it. Unlike them however, I found it to be an enjoyable brew. The taste starts off like bananas and pineapple, it ends like a fruit I can't quite put my finger on. There is only the slightest hop bitterness (perhaps the SNPA just prior is influencing that). A decent beer that I would try again but would not go out of my way to get.

Pours a dark cloudy amber colour into the glass, with alot of foam like all weissbier. It has a mild smell of yeast and malt, maybe some hint of citrus. The taste is the same as the smell. You can also feel a little bitterness in the after taste. A good beer but not as good as the naturtrüb.

Brown, chestnut-coloured. Abundant foam, with some big bubble and holes that make it not too beautiful to see. Good hat, anyway.
In the bottom of the bottle, some block of yeast.
Smell of malt, caramel, light hop, pineapple.
Tatste of malt , caramel sugar, honey, and a light point of hop.
Medium body, aftertaste with caramel again, sweet and a slight note of bitter.
Unbalanced toward sweet.

This dunkel is pretty similar to the hefe-weissbier naturtrub. it pours a dark honey colour with a thick white foam head. the smell is slightly perceptible but it previews the soft, woody flavour with a very slight bitterness. It has a Full body; another good beer by paulaner, although not top notch.

Pours a deep golden colour and is very murky. The head is limited, but what there is, does sit there for the duration. As for the taste, it leaves no doubt that it is a wheat beer... with after taste. The body is full. Really does nothing for me......but then again is not my style of choice...
