Shared this lone bottle one with my reluctant wife --weissbier is her favorite style.

Amberlike color, clear, with a huge typically wheat beer head, with lots of retention, and big spots of lacing. Handsome beer.

Smell was more aromatic than I expected from the description of the style. Lots of banana, some clover also.

Taste was of mild malts, refreshing and very easy to drink.

Round beer, moderate bitterness, creamy mouthfeel with a dry finish.

High drinkability.

¡Salud!

Serving date: 2009-01-30. Served in Paulaner weizen glass. 500 ml bottle.

Appearance: Pours a clear pale straw-like color with golden nuances. A rather aggressive pour creates a very big and rocky initial head that settles just a little too soon, but leaves a nice uneven coat of foam that sticks around towards the end. Small lacings.

Smell: Malted wheat and the accompanying aroma of white bread, banana, faint notes of cloves and yeast.

Taste: A distinct taste of bananas, orange peel and even some sweet clementines. Some metallic flavor. More malted wheat and bread. The yeast, faint already in the smell, is even more moderate in the taste. The finish doesn't have much to offer - its semi-dry with a slight bitterness and fades away too quickly.

Mouthfeel: The lingering foam and strong carbonation provides a creaminess to the light body.

Drinkability: This is a decent beer, highly drinkable and quite refreshing, but it's not very interesting. It's just too polished - it's a bit unidimensional, and the flavors lack depth and are presented in a too orderly fashion. For someone who thinks a hefeweizen is too powerful, this one might be recommended though, since it's basically a "hefe light".

I am not a fan of Kristallweizens but it's nice to see some new Paulaner imports in Carrefour.
I bought this Kristallweizen together with the Dunkel Hefeweizen which was positively a good
to great beer. The Paulaner Weissbier Kristallklar pours out a nice golden with the usual
big and generous weizen head which average head retention. It smells subtlely of bananas and
cloves and I can also sense the wheat malts. The taste was not as pronounced as expected and
was more focus on the wheat malts; not much of the bananas and cloves in the taste. Moderate
body with an apt level of carbonation and definitely a high level of drinkability. The wheat
malts were again present in the after taste and I can also sense a slight citrus touch. This
is definitely better than the Weißes Gold, one of Paulaner's newer brews but still not my
style. On the side note this one's very refreshing and thirst quenching. Kristallweizens are
generally lagerish, in my opinion and basically not my preference. Paul is a lager and
Kristallweizen person, however; he would probably like this one. :)

Very disappointing receipe: I had expected far better from a brewery that makes one of the best hefe's in beerland.

Very boring and tasteless beer.
Smell clearly of bread and grassy hops.
Nice straw colour and nice carbonation as well. Fluffy head.
All in all, it's beer as clear as you'd like, reminding of a lager.
The banana and spice that is so great in wheatbeers from Germany is very much missed. In fact, this is just a very plain and ordinary beer.
As I said: if you want something like this, you might just as well pick a plain lager of some kind... the wheat character is there, but this drink should be much more exciting.

Brown 0.5 litre bottle, 5.2%, best before 01/2008, drank 07/2007.

Poured into one of my Franziskaner Weissbier glasses.

It looks the part, light golden yellow with a white head which is constantly being refurbished by the bubbles from below.

Full on banana, with vanilla coming a heavy second, very impressive. I was expecting the banana aroma to be a lot less than the hefe weiss, but I didn't find it so.

Dry overall, but refreashing also, the aromas come out in the flavour too, so banana and vanilla hit your mouth in waves, these tastes stay in the mouthfeel and make this a very drinkable beer IMHO.

A bright, orange, golden beer with a lot of carbonation and a stable, thick head. Too bad this doesn't have the hefe in it, this is not the 'real thing'.

Smell of ripe bananas and vanilla on top of a grainy wheat maltiness. There is a sort of musty smell to it, which reduces the freshness of the beer. Together with the sweet smell.

Taste of wheat, with typical fenolic yeast profile, ripe bananas. I did not taste a lot of clove though. Unlike any other Weizen, this has a slight bitterness, which fits this beer. The sweetness in the smell is not in the taste, the beer is rather dry and has a fenolic aftertaste. I miss the extra taste that the yeast normally adds to a weizen, it seems to always add an extra taste and mouthfeel.

500 ml bottle, at Cardinal, Stavanger. ABV is 5.2%. Pale yellow colour, crystal clear like the name says. Large to moderate head. Typical weissbier aroma, fruity with bananas and cloves, but the the aroma is not as strong as you’ll get from a hefe-w. Crisp and spritzy mouthfeel. Moderate cloves and tolerable hops in the flavour, but boring compared to the hefe. Why filter away the goodies? Short aftertaste.

A foamy head fades into a fine white collar on an almost transparent yellow golden body. The smell shows wheat and some roasted malts with light hints of caramel. The taste is of wheat, slightly citric, iodated, and I thought it lacked a sweeter note. The mouthfeel is very round and ends in a dry way. There’s an impression of banana and grapefruit mixed together, but more with the citrus of the grapefruit than with the sweetness of the banana. Hops are faintly noticeable, but they contribute to the dryness of the finish in a decent (but not great) manner. It’s still a quite drinkable brew, but it seems that it could be improved easily.

Pours clear pale yellow, streaming with small carbonation bubbles and huge white head with excellent retention, patchy lacing. Aroma is sweetish banana, spicy as well as weak wheat.

Taste is clean banana, hints of vanilla, wheat and dry finish. Mouthfeel is medium with slightly more than average carbonation that helps to accentuate hints of spice that can be better felt after midway through the glass.

A decent Kristallweizen, one of the best I have had. Its flavour is much stronger if compared to other filtered Weizen beers.

0.5l bottle poured into my Paulaner 0.5l weissbier glass.

A- Deep golden colour, 5 finger creamy head from typical aggressive weizen pour. Very good head retention and lively beading.

S- lots of banana and fresh breads. a light toffee, sponge cake sweetness.

T- A little thin in flavour, lots of banana but this quickly transcends to a thin bland finish.

M- Spritzy and light, although seems a little stale

D- A ok kristallweizen, a little thin and lacking in refreshment, but overall drinkable

Served into Erdinger Weizen glass

A: Golden with a small frothy head thats stay for a while small lace, a lot of carbonation going on, it almost looks like a champagne glass.

S: Banana, sweet, malts

T: Very thin and watery, same banana flavor, some cereals, a lot of carbonation going on that make me confuse as spiciness.

Overall not a very good beer or at least a dont like the style, feel like light soda to me
