500ml bottle poured into a pils glass by freshness date.
The color is clear ruby brown with big off-white frothy, creamy and fizzy head. It has very good retention and leaves some lacing patches when receded.
The smell is mingled by bready malt, caramel and cocoa cereal with backing by coffee and somewhat creamy note.
Well balance between dark malt, somewhat roasted, caramelized sweetness, cocoa and subtle hop bitterness, finish is slight bready with lingering bitterness from roasted trait and hop.
The body is medium with smooth mouthfeel from mild carbonation that crisp enough to carry well the palate, dry finish.
Overall, very good drinkable, there is rich malty quality along with all round balance character.

On-tap at Paulaner im Tal, on to the beer:
This dunkel lager is chestnut colored with red hues, topped with a creamy inch of head with acceptable retention. Its aroma bring a note of caramel bread, nuts, some husk. Tasting brings a powdery dark malt flavor, which is complemented with pumpernickel and a hint of cocoa. A bit on the sweeter side. It's medium bodied and with a smooth body. It isn't quite at the high level set by other Munich breweries, though it still remains as a an acceptable dunkel.

Half-litre in Maximilian's, Berlin on 22 Feb 2013.
Really enjoyed this: reddy-brown colouring with a good full head of off-white foam which tried to hang around for a while.
Malty nose: woody, nutty, with caramel notes, earthy too.
The taste was also malty: bready and biscuity, not overly sweet compared to some Dunkel brews. Body depth seemed deeper than most also. Coffee and chocolate hints arrive as the beer warms a little, not that I allowed the beer to warm much, I was drinking it too fast!
