This lager poured a deep, clear red with a decent head that left a nice amount of lacing clinging to the glass. The aroma was overpoweringly malty. On tasting the beer, the first thing that hits is the malt flavor, sweet and strong. There is no hop to balance out the malt and no other discernable flavors whatsoever. The body was moderately heavy with a good amount of carbonation.

In summation, I found this beer a little malty for my taste. I enjoy a sweet beer, but this was over the top.

Half-litre in Maximilian's, Berlin on 22 Feb 2013.

Really enjoyed this: reddy-brown colouring with a good full head of off-white foam which tried to hang around for a while.

Malty nose: woody, nutty, with caramel notes, earthy too.

The taste was also malty: bready and biscuity, not overly sweet compared to some Dunkel brews. Body depth seemed deeper than most also. Coffee and chocolate hints arrive as the beer warms a little, not that I allowed the beer to warm much, I was drinking it too fast!

Found on tap at the "Beerhouse" in Moscow, which claims to have an exclusive. Certainly I've never seen it elsewhere. The waitress brought it in a Paulaner Weizenglas - sigh - but it looked mighty fine nonetheless. Dark caramel under a 1.5 finger beige-tan head with some good staying power and nice lacing. A mild caramel scent with hints of rye bread greets the nose. The mouth is very prickly and a tad too light for this style. The taste is mild (maybe also a bit too mild) but good caramel malt, with a nice soft hoppy bite that leaves a crisp dry feel in the jowels. This is a good session beer, although a Dunkles is allowed to be a touch bolder.

First had: on tap at Brauhaus Schmitz, Philly, PA

Poured a clear, reddish-brown with a finger of foamy, off-white head that dissipated fairly quickly, leaving a thin layer of bubbles behind. Toasted malt aroma, nutty, with hints of grains and dried fruit. Toasty malts in the taste, bready, nutty, with a hop bitterness coming through just a bit, giving a pretty dry finish. Medium mouthfeel, and quite drinkable.

500ml bottle best before March '12.

It pours a nice looking dunkel reddish brown but the head is sudsy and dissipates immediately with no lacing.

The smell is mostly grainy with some caramel and a hint of raisin.

The taste is sweeter and surprisingly more bitter than most dunkels. It isn't the perfect balance though. It is hinged upon more cloying-like sweetness and more flavorless bitterness instead of that sweet but subtle sweetness and balancing hop flavor that a good dunkel should exhibit. Nevertheless it isn't bad, but it certainly could be more refined.

Got it on tap on Belgrade beer fest.

A-Dark ruby color,low carbonation,nice white foam,lasting till the end.

S-Some caramel malt, average for the style.

T/M-The caramel really comes out here. Not too complicated and nicely balanced.Lightly carbonated, smooth for drinking.

O-This is average dunkel, must admit that hefe dunkel is much better.

I received the wonderful gift of ½ case of this brew from a good friend who lives in Munich. The beer pours with a dark brown color, shady and murky, with a chocolate complexion. Its head is tall and tan, packed with mostly dense bubbles. It's soapy, with a decent lace. The aroma is good...lots of chocolate, a little sugary malt, roasted grain, a little yeast, and some caramel. Very nice smell indeed. The taste is sweet and bread-like. Lots of munich malt flavor, with considerable sugars from the front through the mid-taste. It's smooth, with a little hops in the finish. No doubt, though, this is a very malt-centric beer here. Medium body and quite smooth, the beer is very satisfying. Not exception, but consistent and very drinkable. I never saw this one in the 'States.
