A: It pours a leather-amber color with an initially thick and wispy white head. Head falls quickly to a thin covering of light bubbly froth. Relative lack of lace.
S: Clean, malty aromatic profile. Light toasted caramel, earthiness, fruity esters, and a slight noble hop presence. Very coherent and enjoyable, though it could stand to be a bit stronger.
T&M: An interesting and uniquely German flavor. Caramel and a good dose of that earthy Munich malt. Noble hops also contribute a lovely floral/spice note on the back end. Fruitiness from the aroma is less prevalent in the flavor, but still contributes a pleasant balance to the flavor. Body is medium, on the lighter side for a marzen, but nothing to complain about.
D: Light in body with an interesting and pleasant flavor. Definitely a highly drinkable and enjoyable marzen.

12oz bottle into a frozen mug.
A - Beautiful, crystal clear dark, autumnal amber. Pretty white head that dissipates quickly, leaving little lace.
S - Typical fresh "hay field" smell of a well-crafted euro-lager. Not special, just lagery goodness. Would love to smell a bit more crystal in this one.
T - The taste of any world class lager with some extra caramel and honey notes. The hop bitterness comes out a little more as it warms up.
M - A bit dry, especially at the end, but crisp and refreshing.
O - What a great lager! I'd only had Sam Adams Oktoberfest before this and I thought it was pretty darned good and looked forward to it every Autumn. This was just such an incredibly better Oktoberfest beer. Paulaner Oktoberfest is available at my bottleshop year round and it's going to be a trial to make myself wait until Autumn to buy it.
