Pours a thick, off-white fluffy head into my Imperial pint glass. Deep garnet, almost light brown in color.
Smells of fresh toasted malt, somewhat sweet but very pleasant. Simple but very enjoyable aroma here.
Flavor is very rich, follows the aroma with notes of sweet malt and a lightly toasted, bready character; extremely smooth and not overpowering. So easy to drink for 8% abv.
Carbonation is light, but the body is med- full, sits nicely on the palate. Feels like candy in the mouth.
This was one of the most enjoyable malt-focused beers I've ever had. Although its somewhat fuller in body, its low bitterness, toasty character, and light carbonation makes this a pleasure to drink. There's a reason they've been brewing this for hundreds of years! I think it'd be great to pair with food too.
