11.2oz bottle (best by 1/2011) poured into a shaker pint glass.

Appearance: Hazy orange-red (not quite coppery) beer with a off-white thin foam across the top. Poured 1/8" thick foam but this died down fast. Some lacing, but this would drift back down the walls of the glass.

Smell: A rich buttery toffee is what I get, and all I get mostly. There are few mild fruit-like notes in there, but it's mostly caramel malt that comes across as buttery toffee for me. For a single note beer it's quite appealing.

Taste: Oh wow - it really is a rich buttery toffee in flavor too. While on the sweet side, it is not cloying and really damn tasty. Dangerously smooth and appealing - an outstanding beer in that single taste. There are some tiny hints of alcoholic notes (dark fruits) at the end, but they are fleeting.

Mouthfeel: Some carbonation on the tongue, but otherwise thick and somewhere between very smooth and slightly sticky. I go back and forth on this one. Either way it goes nicely with the richness of the beer flavor.

Drinkability: This one went really fast, and at this high of an ABV, is really dangerous with how smooth it is. While I wish I had the 500mL bottle, 12oz is enough for one sitting. Still, I would not mind having another one. Went well with a meal (burger and fries) but I could have this one alone to sip and savor....although its so tasty it's hard to sip and savor, I really want to keep drinking more. An outstanding beer in flavor and drinkability. I will definitely pick this up again.

A: Nice amber brown color. Spotty lacing. Mild head.

S: Light chocolate notes. Moderate yeast aroma.

T: Choclate roasted malt. Nice medium body. Moderate yeast, Belgian yeast maybe? Very pleasant all around. Hides the 8% abv.

M: Medium body. Sweet, chocolatey and roasty.

O: I really enjoyed this dopplebock. Having tried a few here in Germany, I prefer it on top off all the heils, pils and export beers (lager) I have been drinking.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into a large tulip. Off white foamy head, little to no lacing. Deep cloudy amber in color.

Malty sweet breads on the nose.

First sip...chewy sweet caramel...medium carbonation, medium weight on the mouth feel. Hints of bitter dark chocolate, popcorn kernels and honey fade to burnt toast and caramelized sugar...the finish is quick and dry with a slight bitterness. As the beer warms the finish is left sweeter than bitter...with a hint of sour dough bread. Nice fuzzy, warmth lingers in my throat.

Back in the day this was one of my all time favorite beers. Many years have passed and it has lost some of it's shine...with so many great beers out there now to choose from this now gets lost on the shelf by me most of the time. Hadn't had it in a while so I thought Id review, not as good as I remembered but still pretty damn good.

A solid Doppel Bock at a very good price...cheers!
