Presentation: Poured from 1 pt .9 oz bottle into Nonic glass
Appearance: Pours a deep amber red. Creamy offwhite two finger head. Beautiful cascade effect. A few bubbles rising to the top. A little lacing, mostly small little circles.
Smell: Dried fruits is the first thing that comes to mind. Some figs and maybe apples. Hops are present as well. Smells very fruity on first whif.
Taste: The dried fruits really come out in the taste. Has an apple cidery taste to it, especially on the back of the tongue. Nice malty background, with hops coming to the front with the fruits. At first the alcohol doesn't show, but as it warms it comes out.
Mouthfeel: Lightly carbonated. Very creamy for a lager. Heavy body feels nice as it goes down. I really like the way this one felt. It was like a smooth porter, which I thought lent itself well to the lager style.
Drinkability: At 7.9% this certainly is not a session beer. But not a sipper either. I found myself taking nice slow quaffs. That's the best way to put it I think, quaffable. I'm drinking a second as I write this.
Overall: Very good, I loved the cider hints in the taste and the slight alcohol presence was nice as well. I will definitely be reaching for this again. A new favorite bock I think!
