Initial pour into the pilsener glass was pretty, with a tight bubbled foamy head and a clear red golden brew. But the head was very short-lived leaving no table, no islands, no lace, and a smattering of lonely dots along the edge.
The smell was rather routine, no significant malt, nothing inviting, just an oh so faint hint of bread, fleeting like the bubbles before it.
The taste improved things a bit, with a dark bread flavor coating the tongue. A bit watery on the edges, subdued toward the finish and weak.
The mouthfeel was more like a smaller beer, could be considered lightweight. Perhaps this is a doppelbock for the masses.
To that end, of course, it is certainly easy to drink. An easily accessible, easy to find doppel that won't turn any heads, but isn't bad. Maybe a good one to use as an introductory brew for the BMC-oriented.
