A: Pours a deep copper with a good amount of tan head.

S: Really nice aroma of malt with what appears to be a bit of pilsner. There's an underlying citrus hop at work but it's in the background. Dark fruits are prominent with a raisin sweetness in the forefront.

T: Not a lot going on in this doppelbock. A bit of caramel sweetness but it's subdued. It's actually a bit more balanced than I would have expected and a bit one dimensional. I would expect a tad more sweetness and a bit more caramel or complex dark fruit notes. It just doesn't linger on the palate long enough to have much of an aftertaste. I would almost venture as to say it's a bit bland for a doppelbock. It does have very mild spice, maybe a tiny bit of orange peel in the background and a little alcohol burn which is nice.

M: Medium bodied with a low carbonation.

O: I find this doppelbock a bit too thin for my taste. It's somewhat one dimensional characters leave a bit to be desired. The bitterness is about right but it lacks the malty hit I like to see in a doppelbock. Overall I would choose this over any mass market product and it does fit the style, just not as exciting as I would have liked. May be one of the few doppelbocks I;ve ever tried that I would almost consider a session beer. I like it.

A: Nice amber brown color. Spotty lacing. Mild head.

S: Light chocolate notes. Moderate yeast aroma.

T: Choclate roasted malt. Nice medium body. Moderate yeast, Belgian yeast maybe? Very pleasant all around. Hides the 8% abv.

M: Medium body. Sweet, chocolatey and roasty.

O: I really enjoyed this dopplebock. Having tried a few here in Germany, I prefer it on top off all the heils, pils and export beers (lager) I have been drinking.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into a large tulip. Off white foamy head, little to no lacing. Deep cloudy amber in color.

Malty sweet breads on the nose.

First sip...chewy sweet caramel...medium carbonation, medium weight on the mouth feel. Hints of bitter dark chocolate, popcorn kernels and honey fade to burnt toast and caramelized sugar...the finish is quick and dry with a slight bitterness. As the beer warms the finish is left sweeter than bitter...with a hint of sour dough bread. Nice fuzzy, warmth lingers in my throat.

Back in the day this was one of my all time favorite beers. Many years have passed and it has lost some of it's shine...with so many great beers out there now to choose from this now gets lost on the shelf by me most of the time. Hadn't had it in a while so I thought Id review, not as good as I remembered but still pretty damn good.

A solid Doppel Bock at a very good price...cheers!
