Our Original Munich Lager is a true classic and a beer which always goes down well. It is mild with a hint of sweetness and a soft hit of hops in the background. This Munich beer is ideal to accompany spicy dishes.

Bottle. Golden color with intense and thick white head. Malt and grassy hops in aroma. Taste is malty with quite short aftertaste. Very drinkable and refreshing. (161 characters)

Very light and crisp helles lager. Floral tones and fruity tones really shine through in this one. Very flavorful and I would definitely recommend to anyone who asked if it's worth it or not! Prost! (198 characters)

Had on tap at the Paulaner brauhaus in Frankfurt. Poured into a pint stein.

L: Pours a clear golden color with thick white head.

S: Malts and noble hops. Fresh baked bread.

T/F: Malty and smooth. Hops there at the finish. Very typical for the style. Nicely carbonated and crisp/smooth.

O: A classic example of a Helles Lager. Tasty and refreshing. (358 characters)

Pours clear golden beer with two-finger whte head, medium retention. Smell is too papery to be admired of, somewhat floral. Taste is even and malty, common for munchner helles, some herbal hops. Classic helles. (210 characters)

The cream is a little dense and consistent. The surprise is in its smell and taste with strong presence of malt. Soft and weak end, but great drinkability. (155 characters)

Super light beer with low carbonation. Light floral smell. Tastes not so bitter with hop spice. Body lighter than I expected, almost like water ... Expected more from a Paulaner beer. (183 characters)

12oz bottle into a pilsner glass
no bottling dates

A: Very light pale straw yellow, a few carbonation bubbles can be seen rising to the top of the glass. 1.5 fingers width of bright white head has decent retention before dissipating down, and leaves almost no lacing. 3.75

S: Floral, sweet, some hop spice, a metallic quality. 3.5

T: Hop spice, some sweetness, floral, subtle bitterness. 3.75

M/D: Light body, carbonation appropriate, very easy drinking. 3.5

O: Solid beer, but not my favorite Helles Lager. Can’t hate on a classic though. 3.75 (558 characters)

Served cool from 500ml brown bottle into straight pilsner mug.

L) Light golden colour, clear, lots of bubbles rising. This one hasn't got any head, just a thin broken white film.

S) Warm bready Munich malt. Delicious smell, but more muted than some other Munich Helles.

T) Lovely warm bready doughy Munich malt is the big taste, with equal hints of hallertau hop bitterness right at the back of the mouth and a distinct sweetness, the origin of which is hard to pin down.

F) Spot on for the style, the sweetness element adds very pleasant additional dimension.

O) Solid Helles, not the best example but available from Majestic Wines for equivalent of £1.60 a bottle; well worth the money. (697 characters)

Not bad. Nice look for a lager, but of course, the head disappears quickly upon pouring. Tastes somewhat strange at first, almost as if some kind of powder had been mixed with water. Initially, I wasn't a fan, but after a few more sips, it started to taste relatively solid.

All in all, I would say this is a pretty average lager, which came as a bit of a disappointment to me, as I had been expecting considerably more of a supposedly premium-class German lager. (464 characters)

Nice, rich yellow appearance with hints of gold. Slightly hazy. Creamy, white head. Aroma of mild, grassy hops with some bready malts. I don't taste anything too distinct. Maybe some lemon with grassiness from the hops. The overall flavor is very nice. Slightly watery mouthfeel. Dry finish. Refreshing. Overall, I really liked this one. Although it's nothing special, it has an easygoing character that I find very appealing.

Bottle provided by Dad tonight.

This one pours a golden clear yellow, with a little bit of lacing, and one inch head.

This smells slightly faint, but nice- bready malts and grassy hops.

This is pretty simple but pretty tasty. The aforementioned bready malts and grassy hops stand tall. Very little bitterness, and very little sweetness- it's perfectly balanced in the middle there.

This is light bodied, with a crisp, dry mouthfeel, and a moderate level of carbonation.

This is a very "beery" beer, and one of the best of the style. (537 characters)

A: crystal clear; the color of apple juice - SRM approx. 5-6; less than a 1 finger ivory head that receded to a thin collar;

S: sulfur;

T: a little skunky; can still pick up a little of the cracker from the malt; a touch of sour apple tartness on the back end before a moderately bitter finish;

M: light bodied; a little effervescent; crisp;

O: if I didn't get the skunkiness, this would have been really good: (414 characters)

There is a grainy, earthy, crayon-like malt aroma accented with some light fruitiness akin to pear and apricot. The head is white and leaves webby lacing; the body is a very pale golden hue. The flavor is dominated by sweet, grainy malt with some doughy sourness, along with some spicy, low-level hop bitterness and a sweet, grainy finish. The feel is rather light and crisp with moderate carbonation.

Very light, smooth, and drinkable with plenty of cleanly sweet malt and just a little punctuating bitterness. It also has a sour quality, which isn't too appealing. (568 characters)

Typical Munich lager appearance.
Typical Munich lager sweet maltiness in the aroma with a hint of hops. Not bad.
Nice sweet malt with again the hops in the background, but it has a slick almost buttery character to it that I don't much enjoy and don't find in any of the other classic examples of the style.
Very drinkable, but that slick sensation builds up and I enjoy the second pint less than the first, the third less than the second.

I'll take a Hofbrau or Spaten over this any day. (490 characters)

A: Straw body with a white head.
S: A bit of prickly ginger and some hops spice.
T: A bit grainy but plenty of lemon/lemonade and some ginger beer. Fairly bitter. Some slight denkness from the hops. Nice bitter/lemonday aftertaste.
O: Would be great with some bread and cheese. (277 characters)

11.2 oz bottle 04/15 poured in a pint glass. Clear yellow, like most lagers. Huge foam head buildup; took a while to go away. Smells bready and of malt. Tastes of chemicals and grain. Something off-putting about it. I got a lingering, bitter aftertaste. I'm going to have to revisit. It may be due to not having had a lager in quite some time. (353 characters)

Pours a medium golden color with a slight white head Some lacing left along the glass as you finish. Good amount of carbonation. Smell is sweet, malty, and fresh. Taste is also malty but with a subtle hint of grapes. Medium bodied -- good session beer and a good alternative for someone that feels like getting a lager with a little kick to it but nothing crazy. Paired this with sausage and peppers on the bbq on a hot summer day and it was very enjoyable. (457 characters)

Sampling right now on 8/2/14. Comes in a 330ml (11.2 ounce) bottle. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a handled glass "Texas" style boot.

Pours a pretty golden in color with a good half of a finger foamy white head that settles down to just along the sides of the glass. Some spotty lacing is seen when sipped. Perfect carbonation. The aroma is of bready malts for the most part. The taste has more going on even with a sweet bread taste followed by a slight dry finish. Clean and crisp and goes down easy. No bitter or harsh aftertaste at all. Lighter to medium bodied. Overall a great brew! (629 characters)

Dated 01/15.

Appearance: Amazing clarity and a golden color. Fluffy three-finger white head with decent retention. A few tiny bubbles cascade upwards from the base of the glass.

Aroma: Great bready malt. Some dryness, very clean.

Taste: Not as grainy as the aroma led me to believe. Some bitterness from the hops as well as some interesting yeast esters. Somewhat dry with a smooth finish. Aftertaste is a tad cloying due to dryness bready malt flavor that lingers on the palate. I expected a little more hop flavor, there is really just a hint of bitterness. A flash of sweetness comes across during the initial taste.

Mouthfeel: Between thin and medium in body with smooth carbonation and easy drinkability.

Final Thoughts: Not quite as great as I was hoping given the freshness and dark bottle. A good example of the style and worth a try if you are a fan of the style. Nothing special but far and above adjunct swill on the market. Would I drink it again? On a hot day. (978 characters)

Pours a thin head on a clear straw colored body.
The aroma is dry grain with some lemon. Mild.
The taste has a grain flavor as well with some mild bitterness. Pretty tame.
The texture is fizzy with moderate carbonation.
It's fine but lacks any distinguishing characteristics. (275 characters)

Pours a deep, clear gold with a creamy white head. The head has only the barest retention, slightly hanging on around the circumference of the glass and leaving no lacing. The aroma has nice bready malt with hints of earthy hops. The taste is similar, but with just a really good depth to it. It's not complicated, it's just good. The body is not too heavy but has a satisfying weight to it and a light hops bite on the finish. Always a good lager. (448 characters)

Appearance: Clear yellow, ok head.

Smell: Mildly sweet bread.

Taste: Sweet corn flavor with a bit of grassy hop to balance it out.

Overall: Beer #3 from the Paulaner mix pack. A solid helles lager, nice balanced flavor and easy to drink. Worth a try if you want a traditional German lager. (292 characters)

I have had this beer many times and I figured I would finally give it my review.

The beer poured very nicely into a tall glass with very little head. This beer had a nice smell and the drink was very smooth. Lacing on the glass was apparent after the first couple of sips but quickly diminished.

The only thing I disliked about this brew was the aftertaste. It wasn't necessarily a bad aftertaste. It just wasn't as smooth as some of the other beers I have had from Paulaner.

Overall, this is a delicious beer. The smell is nice, the taste is nice, and it is another one of those beers that I can drink all evening long without feeling the need to switch to a different type. (680 characters)

The beer poured out with a light gold color, decent carbonation, and sported a thin, white head. Malty nose with a dank, wet grass note. Lightly toasted malt grain flavor with a corresponding hop bitterness to even things out. Medium-light body; slightly coarse; clean and dry finish.

Nothing exceptional leaps out at you with this beer, but it is tasty, wet, and soothing overall. There's a pleasant marriage with the light, biscuit-like graininess and rounded hop bitterness starting midway through the sip and on past the finish. Probably won't bowl you over in any manner, but most likely won't disappoint you either. (622 characters)
