There is a grainy, earthy, crayon-like malt aroma accented with some light fruitiness akin to pear and apricot. The head is white and leaves webby lacing; the body is a very pale golden hue. The flavor is dominated by sweet, grainy malt with some doughy sourness, along with some spicy, low-level hop bitterness and a sweet, grainy finish. The feel is rather light and crisp with moderate carbonation.

Very light, smooth, and drinkable with plenty of cleanly sweet malt and just a little punctuating bitterness. It also has a sour quality, which isn't too appealing.

Typical Munich lager appearance.
Typical Munich lager sweet maltiness in the aroma with a hint of hops. Not bad.
Nice sweet malt with again the hops in the background, but it has a slick almost buttery character to it that I don't much enjoy and don't find in any of the other classic examples of the style.
Very drinkable, but that slick sensation builds up and I enjoy the second pint less than the first, the third less than the second.

I'll take a Hofbrau or Spaten over this any day.

A: Straw body with a white head.
S: A bit of prickly ginger and some hops spice.
T: A bit grainy but plenty of lemon/lemonade and some ginger beer. Fairly bitter. Some slight denkness from the hops. Nice bitter/lemonday aftertaste.
O: Would be great with some bread and cheese.

11.2 oz bottle 04/15 poured in a pint glass. Clear yellow, like most lagers. Huge foam head buildup; took a while to go away. Smells bready and of malt. Tastes of chemicals and grain. Something off-putting about it. I got a lingering, bitter aftertaste. I'm going to have to revisit. It may be due to not having had a lager in quite some time.

Pours a medium golden color with a slight white head Some lacing left along the glass as you finish. Good amount of carbonation. Smell is sweet, malty, and fresh. Taste is also malty but with a subtle hint of grapes. Medium bodied -- good session beer and a good alternative for someone that feels like getting a lager with a little kick to it but nothing crazy. Paired this with sausage and peppers on the bbq on a hot summer day and it was very enjoyable.

Sampling right now on 8/2/14. Comes in a 330ml (11.2 ounce) bottle. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a handled glass "Texas" style boot.

Pours a pretty golden in color with a good half of a finger foamy white head that settles down to just along the sides of the glass. Some spotty lacing is seen when sipped. Perfect carbonation. The aroma is of bready malts for the most part. The taste has more going on even with a sweet bread taste followed by a slight dry finish. Clean and crisp and goes down easy. No bitter or harsh aftertaste at all. Lighter to medium bodied. Overall a great brew!

Dated 01/15.

Appearance: Amazing clarity and a golden color. Fluffy three-finger white head with decent retention. A few tiny bubbles cascade upwards from the base of the glass.

Aroma: Great bready malt. Some dryness, very clean.

Taste: Not as grainy as the aroma led me to believe. Some bitterness from the hops as well as some interesting yeast esters. Somewhat dry with a smooth finish. Aftertaste is a tad cloying due to dryness bready malt flavor that lingers on the palate. I expected a little more hop flavor, there is really just a hint of bitterness. A flash of sweetness comes across during the initial taste.

Mouthfeel: Between thin and medium in body with smooth carbonation and easy drinkability.

Final Thoughts: Not quite as great as I was hoping given the freshness and dark bottle. A good example of the style and worth a try if you are a fan of the style. Nothing special but far and above adjunct swill on the market. Would I drink it again? On a hot day.

Pours a thin head on a clear straw colored body.
The aroma is dry grain with some lemon. Mild.
The taste has a grain flavor as well with some mild bitterness. Pretty tame.
The texture is fizzy with moderate carbonation.
It's fine but lacks any distinguishing characteristics.

Pours a deep, clear gold with a creamy white head. The head has only the barest retention, slightly hanging on around the circumference of the glass and leaving no lacing. The aroma has nice bready malt with hints of earthy hops. The taste is similar, but with just a really good depth to it. It's not complicated, it's just good. The body is not too heavy but has a satisfying weight to it and a light hops bite on the finish. Always a good lager.

Appearance: Clear yellow, ok head.

Smell: Mildly sweet bread.

Taste: Sweet corn flavor with a bit of grassy hop to balance it out.

Overall: Beer #3 from the Paulaner mix pack. A solid helles lager, nice balanced flavor and easy to drink. Worth a try if you want a traditional German lager.

I have had this beer many times and I figured I would finally give it my review.

The beer poured very nicely into a tall glass with very little head. This beer had a nice smell and the drink was very smooth. Lacing on the glass was apparent after the first couple of sips but quickly diminished.

The only thing I disliked about this brew was the aftertaste. It wasn't necessarily a bad aftertaste. It just wasn't as smooth as some of the other beers I have had from Paulaner.

Overall, this is a delicious beer. The smell is nice, the taste is nice, and it is another one of those beers that I can drink all evening long without feeling the need to switch to a different type.

The beer poured out with a light gold color, decent carbonation, and sported a thin, white head. Malty nose with a dank, wet grass note. Lightly toasted malt grain flavor with a corresponding hop bitterness to even things out. Medium-light body; slightly coarse; clean and dry finish.

Nothing exceptional leaps out at you with this beer, but it is tasty, wet, and soothing overall. There's a pleasant marriage with the light, biscuit-like graininess and rounded hop bitterness starting midway through the sip and on past the finish. Probably won't bowl you over in any manner, but most likely won't disappoint you either.

12 oz bottle served in a pilsener glass.

A - Pours a very clear yellow with a fair amount of carbonation visible. 1.5" head which stuck around for a few minutes. Small amount of lacing stuck to glass.

S - Straw, Munich malts, lager dankness, and very slight hoppy bitterness. Not a lot going on, but not a bad smelling beer.

T - Munich malts up front, with a heavier sweetness than normal for a Helles. Small amount of hops in the aftertaste. Very light flower-like taste as well, even a miniscule hint of strawberry. Not a bad Helles.

F - Crisp and clean. Very easy to drink, and is easy on the throat and stomach.

O - Crisp Helles w/ a good taste, although a little too sweet for the style, IMO. Helles lager's are such a great style of lager in regards to flavor. There are certainly better examples of the style, but it's a decent interpretation of the style.

Bottle -> Chalice

Pours a very clear pale gold color. Little head, which dissipate quickly.

Distinct mineral smell, otherwise somewhat bland generic lager.

Taste is the best aspect. Excellent weight, but not flavorful.

Mouthfeel is very lacking. Watery. Carbonation is too light but pleasant. Crisp with good granularity.

Overall it is too watery and lacking in flavor, however, it is very pleasant to drink otherwise with no bad qualities. Better than most competitors in it's category.

12oz. bottle that was misplaced in my case of Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen. Hey, I'll take the variety.

A- Looks like a macro lager with very little head.

S- Better than a vast majority of Munich Helles lagers. Straightforward grain/lager smell, but has a bit of a Hefe kick on the end (yeasty, some light banana).

T- A really well done Helles. A very nice malt sweetness leads to the yeasty/mild banana note, and ends with a very mild hop finish. Very clean.

M- The best part. Starts almost slick and downright creamy for a lager, but the crispness hits mid sip and the carbonation kicks in as well.

O- Likely my favorite of the German Helles, but as wrong as it feels to say, I'll still take Stoudt's Gold Lager.

11.2 fl oz bottle poured into a Sam Adams tasting glass.

A - Pouring down the center of the glass produces about 2 inches of white head that swiftly fades to a light ribbon. Once poured, the beer has a pale yellow color, is completely clear and has an almost non-existent carbonation. Light, yet lasting, lacing.

S - Not a lot going on in the aroma. Light citrus with a musty, biscuity touch.

T - Tastes of malt, bread, and grain with a barely noticeable hint of hops .

M - Light bodied with mild carbonation.

O - A very clean, crisp, refreshing beer. I keep this one around for when I'm in the mood for something very light. Have received quite positive feedback from several non-craft beer drinkers so this seems to be a nice gateway beer.

Half litre bottle.

A: Golden, clear, small head, moderate retention, lots of lacing.

S: Citrus, malt, slightly soapy.

T: Munich malt, orange, hint of paint.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, fairly smooth.

O: A middle of the road Helles, does the job but nothing more.

app- pours a yellow straw color. Crystal clear, with the tiniest amount of streaming bubbles. Not much head but it's white and fizzed down to a paper thin cap.

sml- I like this smell. Slightly pungent hops. Lemony, peppery. I don't get much malt smell. Also some clean water.

tst- Here is where the malt smoothness kicked in. This is a very balanced and bright beer. The hops are not all that intense, just refreshing and once again, bright. Malt kicks the bitterness down just a notch. Not enough to taste much on the malt side, however.

Mf- it's light, goes down smooth. Just that slightest bit of a kick from the lemony hops.

It's unbelievable to imagine that this is what Budweiser has been trying to make all this time. This is the quintessential bright lager. Nothing heavy, nothing complex. Just the basic, super fresh beer ingredients that leave a light taste in your mouth and you wanting more. This is definitely a beer I would give to my adjunct drinking friends.

Pale straw yellow in color with perfect clarity. Poured with a short, dense white foam that reduced to a healthy white cap. Earthy grass and bready aromas with light herbal notes in the background. Delicate, creamy smooth feel up front, rich carbonation through the middle and a crisp , tangy finish. Bready malt flavor througbout with light, spicy, herbal hop tanginess through the middle to the end. Finishes crisp and clean with a bready malt aftertaste.

Very rich, pale malt, biscuit, honey, faint spicy hops.

Taste:
Rich malts up front, biscuit, cracker, cookie dough, faint vanilla. Mild hop bitterness towards the end, mainly lemonly-spicy. Finish is crisp and clean. Body is light, carbonation is mild, slight dryness in the aftertaste.

Poured from the bottle into a pilsner style glass.

A real super brass gold, and real crystal clear. Some good mix of slow and fast rising carbonation, with a bright white head. Head billows up real nice, fluffy, hangs around with a light top for quite some time. Real good looking beer.

Nose is classic German malts, and some dough bread. Hits also some clean hop, very light grass and even somewhat floral. Real nice.

Palate hits with an interesting angle. It seems a little light bodied, but the malt flavors come in nicely. Honey sweetness a bit, not particulalry toasty. Wetness kind of smacks the palate a bit, and the sweetness seems a little artificial strangely. Carbonation seems about moderate. Hop angle seems to just want to peak out barely, but doesn't quite get there.

Overall though this is probably not my fav, but it's easily drinkable and wouldn't ever turn it down. I'll enjoy finishing these off.

Pours a clear, transparent straw color. Thin, bubbly head dissipates quickly. Some lacing, but not much.

Smell is sweet grass, and just a hint of sweet malt and bread. Very subtle and mild.

Tastes of sweet malt and some hints of biscuit. An underlying sweetness in the finish. Very little hops.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp, with some carbonation. A clean, dry finish.

Another easy drinking Helles. I do love this style.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a straight pint glass.

Pours a pale golden colour with a decent lasting white head.

Smells malty and yeasty, yet quite light.

Tastes extremely more-ish. Light and yeasty with a slight malt depth and hop bitterness. Very refreshing.

Overall a really enjoyable beer, nothing great about it except its simplicity which is an awesome thing to have. A pleasure to drink, it slips down a treat.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.

Poured a straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was Goid retention and lacing.

The smell featured a noble hops and a touch of metal.

The taste consisted of a grainy malt with a light herbal hop and a metallic twang.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall an average lager. Nothing special.

I picked up a 6 pack of Munich Helles from South Lyndale Liquors in Minneapolis, MN.

Appearance --- light pale golden color. Carbonation bubbles flowing subtly through a clear complexion. Minimal white head

Smell --- bready malts

Taste --- bready, with possibly small hints of banana

Mouth feel --- slightly carbonated, very smooth, light bodied, sweet finish

Overall --- I enjoy this beer every time, and will always come back to it at several points in the year. Superb
