Poured from 1 liter can into Spaten mas mug.

A: Golden hue. Pours about a 3 finger, foamy, white head. Head dessicates and disintegrates fairly slowly leaving a blanket of persistent foam. No real lacing to speak of.

S: Really woody and earthy malt nose, with a little wheat and just a touch of hop.

T: Slightly sweet malt, and a little hop. A faint tinge of honey and olive oil.

M: Full body, but crisp and refreshing. Pungent finish.

D: This one goes down easy.

Atmosphere is pretty good. Great head but no real lacing. Nose is simple, but earthy and full. Flavor is a robust malt with slightly sweet and woody notes. Overall, this is a good quaff.

Poured in a Pilsner glass from a quart size can. Reviewed live.

A- Finger and a half-width head. Medium, minute long retention. Clear amber color and rapid carbonation.

S- Light hops, amber malts and some hay smells as well. Light smelling beer but with farmhouse notes as well.

T- Delightfully sweet and light. Great tasting oktoberfest beer. Reminds me of Germany.

M- Medium bodied, syrupy but light, which is sort of strange to describe. The body is thick, but the taste is light enough that it offsets it.

O- Wonderful beer. Got it as a Christmas present, and was pleasantly surprised with how good the massive can treated me.

Ba Review #106
Served On: 01/11/2012
Glassware: Dimpled Mug
Labeled ABV: 6.0%
Date/ Code: 2/11/2012

Found this at Ye Old Spirits Shop in Frederick, MD. A little out of season - but still just within the freshness date. Also came with a nice dimpled glass mug.

Look: Poured a clear golden macro-lager yellow with a large thick white head. Carbonation level was nice and high with tons of bubbles stuck to the glass.

Smell: Aroma caught me a little off guard. It was crisp and grassy with some sweet malty notes. I also noticed some sort of weird medicinal ester in the background. It could have almost been described as melted plastic or nail polish remover.

Taste: Had a medium body and went down real smooth. First was a sweetness that moved into a yeasty middle with that odd solvent flavor finally hitting the palate towards the end. Finish was crisp and grassy with some lingering sweetness.

This brew was alright. I have to say it was a little disappointing for my first Paulaner. Honestly I really just picked this up for the dimpled mug that was included.

Pour - nice dark, golden color with a big, frothy, pancake batter like head on top. Clean and clear in appearance with nice carbonation and lits of tiny bubbles streaming upwards. Plenty of lacing in this big liter-size mug.

Aroma - sweet malt aroma with some notes of apples and caramel. Not a whole lot else going on. Smells very much like what it is, a darker, sweeter lager.

Taste - honey wheat flavor on the tongue with some caramel flavors coming in the back. Very solid malt flavors with decent carbonation on the tongue and a dry finish. The more sips of this I take the more I realize why this is they type of beer that folks are drinking at Oktoberfest. It's pretty straightforward with no palate killing flavors. Just a smooth, slightly sweet yet balanced lager. Certainly not an easy style of beer to brew but one that will appeal to a good many people in times of revelry.

Overall - easy drinking lager with a touch of honey-like sweetness in the finish of every sip. The hardest part of drinking this beer is lifting this huge liter-sized glass mug over and over again! Thankfully it keeps getting lighter with each gulp. Prosit!

Aroma
A bit of a yeasty, grassy scent in a 1 liter glass that it was packaged with. Hints of some caramel in there.

Mouthfeel
Bit of feel on the palette, a bit heavier than water

Appearance
Poured to nice pillowish head I'd hoped for out of the can but alas without being on draft it dissipated pretty quickly. Golden/straw color.

Taste As expected there's the light grassiness with some hints of the caramel flavor, easy on the palette without much aftertaste.

Drinkability
Definitely, I can envision myself seeing how many of these I could get through in a very loud tent with a few hundred of my newest deutsch friends around.

Overall
it could be the serving vessel partially but this is a nice, light, drinkable beer exactly like what american macros should be shooting for instead of the bland stuff they're churning out.

Liter can came with a liter stein. They changed the name on the can to Oktoberfest Wiesn. Originally they named it Wiesn Beer - but it's the same beer.

Pours a hay yellow. Fizzy white head fades quickly to a lasting lace.

Aroma is sweet cereal grains, hay, butterscotch, honey, clementines. A very sweet aroma, more sweet than other oktoberfests. Vanilla, almond butter. Floral. Faint fusel alcohol.

Taste is clean upfront. Some nuttiness in the flavor. Sweet almonds, hazelnuts maybe. Grassy and not as malty as I expected. Hops only towards the end. Mouth puckering but ends quickly. Very clean finish. Leaves only a grassy, light malt liquor aftertaste.

A lighter ockotberfest. Very easy drinking. Not very complex in flavor, but I like this beer a lot due to its drinkability. You can pound this. Nice marketing with the full liter can.

1 quart can poured into an oktoberfest Paulaner oktoberfest stein.

Appearance- Golden color with snow white head that settles. Great lacing for a lighter colored beer.

Smell- Lots of grain here. Also strong German beer smell. Don't know how to explain it, but while I was in Germany all the beer had this distinctive smell!

Taste- A nice grainy malt with very well balanced hops and carbonation.

Mouthfeel- Lots of bubbly carbonation with a nice smooth drinkable finish.

Very nice German beer but not nessacarily what have come to expect in a Oktoberfest.

A: Pours a clear and pale golden color with a thin white head. I was a little worried about how this would taste after pouring, but luckily it was tasty.

S: Freshly baked bread, toasted cereal malt, a touch of earthy hops and some nuttiness.

T: I wasn't expecting much from this but it's actually really tasty. Great smooth malt flavor throughout with a nice almond meal nuttiness, a slight touch of hops and then a sweet grainy and cereal malt finish. Infinitely drinkable.

Massive 1L can into a dimpled stein. Purchased from Supermarket Liquors in Ft. Collins, CO for $5.

A: Crystal clear gold in color with a massive white head that reaches almost two inches, but quickly recedes to a thin cap with a few spots of lacing left behind. Active carbonation moves up from the bottom of the stein.

S: Smells quite sweet, lots of grainy malt, and a touch of a spicy, earthy floral hop. A little bit of a honey smell. Fairly clean smelling, no sulfury lager smells that I sometimes get in lagers. Not too shabby.

T: Taste follows the smell, sweet malt with a touch of a floral hop bite in the finish. A touch of bitterness helps round things out. Kind of an odd sweet flavor in here, reminds me a bit of a few dubbels (weird) that I've had. Reminds me of a nasty, cheap candy flavor, it doesn't dominate but it definitely is there. Not bad though.

M: Light and crisp with excellent carbonation. Finishes quite dry. Not bad at all.

O: Not bad, a pretty tasty beer that I could drink a lot of and thankfully there's a lot here! I won't have any issues splitting this one tonight.

1L can poured into the accompanying mass krug. Awesome so far.

First of all, this beer is not a Maerzen Oktoberfest, so I am not reviewing it as such. Seems more like a Spezial Helles or similar.

Head foams up nicely after pouring, but dissipates into a thin cap quicker than I'd hoped for. Still, nice lacing on the glass. The beer is a slightly hazy golden color.

Aroma of lightly sweet bready malt and cracker-like grains. Huge melanoidins here. Still awesome.

Flavor: the bready malt flavor is excellent in this beer. Notes of honey, biscuit, slight kiss of noble hops in the finish.

Mouthfeel: here is where this beer falls slightly short. The sweetness tends to build up in the mouth a bit, detracting from drinkability. Carbonation is a bit low as well, and some of the flavors seem a bit muted. I can't help but wonder how much better this beer would be on draft or at least very freshly consumed. My can was sitting on a shelf at room temperature in the store...

Overall, a very interesting concept, and one that I'd like to see more German breweries taking advantage of. The light-blocking can could help a lot of sensitive Bavarian styles survive the voyage across the ocean better. Refrigeration should be mandatory, however.

1L can: Poured a clear golden color beer with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma is not the best with light notes of overcooked vegetables and lightly sweet malt. Taste is a mix between some light overcooked vegetable notes with some light malt with sweet notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not sure if this is really what people drink during Oktoberfest but I sure ain’t looking forward to drinking this again.

Poured into siedel mug.

A - Poured clear golden color with big white fluffy head that slowly dissipated leaving average lacing around the glass.

S - Bready grains and wheat with earthy spices and floral scents.

T - Starts off sweet with malts followed by bready grains and light spiciness with a slightly bitter fruity finish.

M - Medium bodied with high carbonation.

O - Very good oktoberfest that is light, crisp and refreshing. I would recommend it.
