My main beer shop is Corridor Fine Wines on 198 here in Maryland, but Jason's is very close to me, and their selection complements Corridor very, very well. They have many imports from England (Samuel Smith, Young's) as well as a large selection of beers from all over the US (Rogue Brewery in Oregon is well represented). For the Belgian ale lover, they have a very large selection of Tripels and Dubbels, though I am not a fan.

Their seasonal local specials are pretty good too, though they can be pricey.

Was ignored by customer service. The standard selection of beer with no effort to get anything rare or desirable in the shop. Decent prices. Won't be visiting here again.

Good selection of bottled brews, decent liquor selection, but most quality beer is not available cold and not the best prices in town

Jason's has a good selection of craft and imports, with a pretty wide range of special releases too. If a special beer is coming into MD, they seem to get it most of the time. Staff is friendly enough to check stock and answer questions you may have. They also offer growler fills and typically have about 6 different offerings at any given time. Prices are pretty much average for the area, maybe a touch better on some items. Worth checking out.

Jasons has expanded their beer section over the last few years so the variety is ok. Prices are a bit high unless they're running a sale. And when they have a sale everyone else does to.

Service has been ok. We tried to corner the market on Smooth Hoperator last year just as it ran out. We asked them to order a case for us and it showed up when they started brewing it again.

WATCH OUT FOR OLD STOCK. I was in there tonight to buy some Prima Pils and all they had was past the best by date. There's no excuse for that.

Jason's is a relatively small liquor store located just West of hiway 29 on Baltimore National Pike. Given the layout of the store, it would be easy to wonder whether or not they even stock beer in this place, as almost all of their selection is contained in several cold boxes in the back to the right. Most of the store otherwise consists of their wine and liquor selection, with a couple of rows of craft beer located in the back by the wine selection.

As for the selection, it's generally pretty good. They have a good selection of local, regional and national craft beer, as well as a decent selection of European stuff (mostly German and Belgian). Don't expect to find anything particularly unusual or rare here (it's not that kind of store; though they did have some DuClaw Colossus last time I was in), but otherwise I've generally been pretty satisfied with the selection here.

Service is OK. You pretty much need to ask for assistance if you need any help (there's usually some bored clerk sitting behind the cash register otherwise), but the folks here can answer most questions otherwise.

Prices are undeniably on the high side. They're not as high as what you'll find over at the Perfect Pour, but this is Howard county after all, and so it's generally unrealistic to expect to find any deals.

This isn't a place I'd recommend that anyone go out of their way for, but if you happen to be in the area and need to pick up a 6 pack of local craft or some import, Jason's is a good place to stop by.

Nice little beer store in Ellicott City. Great selection of foreign beers as well as all the locally distributed American craft beers you'd expect to see. Lots of Victory, Troegs, Clipper City, Flying Dog, Weyerbacher, Southern Tier, etc. I was also surprised to see some beers from The Bruery there, which I didn't realize Maryland is lucky enough to get. One criticism of the place is that they don't allow mixed 6-packs, but oh well, you can't always have it all. Service is hit-or-miss depending on who you happen to talk to. Good beer store overall though. I hear they are expanding their beer area by two coolers two, so the selection should be rather impressive in a few months or so.

I have been to Jasons multiple times, and it remains my "go to" establishment for brew purchases (in addition to having a decent scotch selection). Their stock is fairly consistent, covering the range of mainstream belgians, a wide selection of micros in the wall unit, and a good deal of seasonals in the aisle fridge. Jasons is inconsistent in terms of what they keep in stock, always a lot of Allagash specials, but always the same three or four Rogues and Dogfish. Fine representation of Victory, Smuttynose and other sixes in the wall fridge, but beware of some dated seasonals.

Although the owner is always very helpful and quick to order up anything for you that he can get his hands on, the rest of the folks there are less then adequately educated for a store with a better than average selection. Not to mention the prices run on the top end of what I would pay.

They don't have everything, but they do have something for everyone, and you would be hard pressed to find someone to finicky to walk out with something.

UPDATED SINCE EXPANSION

The manager at Jason's is one of the select few liquor store owners who understands (1) the need for refrigerated storage and (2) the need to carry something other than what everyone else has. Look hard when you walk in and you'll be hard pressed to see many macro cases. They keep them in the back. So you walk into the beer aisles, past rare imports and refrigerated craft brews and actually have to look carefully (or enter the "backside" of the fridge unit) to see many BMC offerings. I've asked for the occasional bock or schwarzbier and the manager has quickly secured it for me from his distributor. I like the convenience of a Route 40 address. Jason's is easy to get to and always has something new to try.

10/28/09: Jason's expanded (almost doubling their size) and their cold beer selection is enormous. Most of the back wall of the store are cooler after glass-door cooler that display an even larger array of craft and import beer in 6 packs, primarily. I was surprised at the expanded selection, finding things I'd never seen at Jason's before. Well worth the trip to the new and improved Jason's.

Went there on the reccomendation of a friend. The inside definately looks better than the outside and their selection is good, however the service is severely substandard. I asked about an in-stock on a belgian beer only to be giggled at and asked "Do we carry that?" I don't why do you think I'm asking you?? Their prices are also rather steep on the imports/microbrews. As an alternative I would reccomend Enchanted Forest Wine and Spirits or Pine Orchard. Ench. Forest definately has the better service, prices and a nice boutique store atmosphere.

I hadn't been to Jason's in a few years but I was looking for Dupont Saison and they had it in stock. I was impressed by the large selection which is spreadout in two areas of the store. I had to ask for help to find it. Ed was the man who seemed to be the one who knows where everythring is and what he carries.

The only place that has a larger selection in the area is Chevy Chase Wine and Spirits in Washington, DC. The selection & prices are substantially better than Olney Beer & Wine in Olney, MD. I would also shop here rather than North Ridge Wine & Spirits located in Ellicott City due to the larger selection.

The only downside is that most beer is not sold in singles. Chevy Chase Wine and Spirits offers this and it comes in handy if you don't buy a particular brew on a regular basis or you just want to check out a beer before buying more. I mentioned this to Ed and he hopes to be able to offer this service in the future.

Read about this place in the regional forum and had the opportunity to stop in and check it out. Really doesn't look like much on the outside---just a neon sign for a liquor store in a little rundown stripmall. Inside though it's pretty large and there is a good selection of beer to be found. There's a cooler with the regionals like Clipper City, Fordham, DeGroen's and Frederick. They've got another cooler with offerings from Dogfish, Victory, Heavyweight, Lancaster, and North Coast. There's a shelf devoted to Belgians with every Trappist except Westvleteran represented as well as a good selection of Unibroue, Allagash, and Ommegang beers. There's also some Rogue and Bear Republic bombers. Overall a very nice selection.

Didn't really get service until the checkout--at which point I got carded, hassled for looking young, accused of having a fake out of state license, and then giggled at for purchasing very expensive bottles of beer. Hopefully the two women working that night were the exception.
