Easily the best beer selection in Austin, bar-wise. The 120 or so beers they have on bottle may not sound like an overwhelming number, that is until you realize that they refuse to stock more than a handful of token macros. This goes double with the 76 beers on tap - of the latter only Miller Lite rears it’s ugly head, and my impression is that this is done solely to keep the BMC fans who come in with their more enlightened compadres content. The front door opens on a long bar with an impressive array of taps. The Ginger Man actually has two different keg coolers set at different temperatures, so lagers and lighter ales are served at an appropriately cooler temp than the heartier Belgians, stouts, etc. They have one cask which is nearly always St Arnold Amber The bartenders are generally very knowledgable and more than capable of recommending something in a particular style of beer. The only real downside is the pricing - most imports and American micros start at $4.50, with just about anything over the standard 5-6% abv usually at $5.50 and above

I'm going to be "that" guy right now. The Ginger Man used to be AMAZING. Wonderful vibes abound in the old place. It felt like THE PLACE to drink beer. Real Estate in Austin happened and they moved to a tiny place with a nice indoor area but the outdoor 'patio' is miserable. You're surrounded by skyscrapers and terrible music. If it's Summer time, forget it. You'll DIE outside it's so damn hot. Is it a bad place? Not at all. Was this within their control? Hardly. Do I have to like it? Nope.

Personally, I miss the old location. It had a more quiet and relaxing feel to it, like a true pub. The current location still captures a lot of the same feel, but with a more commercial and open feel. The beer and service, however, remains spot-on.

This place has a huge L shaped bar with a grey stone top and can easily seat about 20 or more patrons. Very dark interior as the lights are kept very low. Some dart boards line the walls, and there are a bunch of tables off the bar area. There is also an outdoor seating area where a bunch of people were taking their drinks.

They had to have about 80 beers on draft, so you will find something to your liking. I had several pints over two days, and each one was fresh as the beer seems to move here despite the large number of drafts.

The bartender was very friendly and prompt with her service. She also seemed to understand the styles she was serving. Only had an appetizer here which was good. This is a worthwhile stop in the downtown area.
