What a delight! I have tried 20 holiday/winter beers so far this year and this is by far my favorite. A touch of sweet but not overwhelming. A little bit of cinnamon and vanilla but not overpowering and in your face. I love the slight bitterness that only comes from walnut. This is the beer I want around a cozy fire after spending two days running around from family house to family house. Maybe a few before.

12 oz bottle
Date Consumed: 13 March, 2023
Glass: Belgian Tulip Snifter
ABV: 5%
Look:
Chestnut brown with mahogany highlights. The head is tan colored and starts out at 2+ fingers high. The head slowly dissipates to about 1 finger, leaving very good lacing.
Aroma:
Mild semi-sweet and milk chocolate. Marzipan with some hints of hazelnut. Noticeable cinnamon. Some sweet fruity notes. Hint of vanilla.
Taste:
Follows the nose but the cinnamon (and any other spices) are dialed down several notches.
Feel:
Well carbonated and somewhat spritzy. The body is medium-light or light-medium.
Overall:
A decent brown ale. This would be more of dessert beer due to the added flavors. It is somewhat on the light side, body-wise and ABV, for a winter beer.

Pennsylvania Brewing Co. "Nut Roll Ale"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, seemingly without production codes or freshness dating
$2 @ ACME #2762, Phila., PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: I'm at a little bit of a loss here as I don't know what "GRANDMA'S HOMEMADE NUT ROLL" tastes like but here we go. It's poured a very dark chestnut brown colored body beneath an inch of creamy off-white foam. The aroma is sugary, fruity, caramelish, nutty, and gently spicy. I think I'm smelling cinnamon, and I'm definitely getting dried dark-skinned fruits and medium-dark caramel. There's some grainy malt there as well. On to the taste... as usual it's fuller than the aroma and I'm finding brown sugar, fig, a dusting of cocoa powder, malt, cashews, vanilla extract, medium-dark caramel, and soft cinnamon. It's not that bitter but it dries very quickly in the finish. It will build up on the palate though if you don't space out your sips, which makes it very much a dessert beer for me. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. The head didn't hold up all that great and there's some nice but limited lacing. With everything said it's a very nice dessert beer and I guess I now know what grandma's nut rolls taste like now!

12 oz. bottle pour. Nice dark brown color with minimal foam. The flavor is lightly chocolate malt. Maybe a bit over-carbonated.

12 ounce bottle poured into a Duvel tulip glass.
L---Dark brown body with a fluffy light brown head. Head faded into a ring pretty quickly and left good lacing.
S---Strong, very strong cinnamon. Light vanilla.
T---Follows the nose, mostly. Cinnamon is less prominent and vanilla is more so. There's also light chocolate & caramel.
F---Fairly light given how flavorful it is. Well carbonated.
O---Cinnamon is a bit overpowering and detracts from the overall experience. Still, a rich, flavorful beer.

For a specialty offering, this is pretty decent. I drinking this in the early spring, but it's 39 degrees and raining, so it hits the spot. Leah thinks it tastes like cough medicine, but I do think it's decent.

It is a decent brown ale. I don’t think you would call this great, but I like how subtle the spices are. Hardly any smell, which is a bit of a draw back. After taste has some cinnamon or nutmeg. Easy drinking on a cold night.

Poured into a non-frosted clear mug.
The appearance was a fairly dark brown color with a two finger's worth of white foamy head that dissipated fairly well to leave some sly lace running here and there.
The aroma had some cinnamon and vanilla character up front over top of some sweet and roasty nuts. Light toffee/caramel malts. An even lighter cocoa powder to biscuit-like maltiness came out nicely.
The flavor was moderately sweet pulling in the cinnamon and vanilla in a nice even balance flowing just as I had hoped it would. Mild aftertaste of the nuts, caramel and vanilla start and then after more sips - more cinnamon seems to come in on the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a good sessionable quality about it. Carbonation felt spot on. ABV felt as projected. Finish was well balanced between spices and malts, nothing out of place.
Overall, as a brown ale it works with a fairly nice English twist on Pennsylvania Brewing Company's ingenuity. I'd have again.

A- dark amber almost cola like color. Half finger bubbly head that leaves a hilly lacing.
S- cinnamon and vanilla
F- cinnamon and clove spice with hints of vanilla
M- creamy and chewy. Carbonated and bubbly
O- over carbonated and the spices dominate over the vanilla a tad much.
