Great clarity. A true yellow-gold color with a fat white head from a tumbling pour.

Pilsner and wheat aromas with a tangy grassiness. Odorously sweet with a hiding hop bitterness. Herbal and wild. Faint citrus quelled by a pop of maltiness. Strange graininess with an unappealing musty offness. Almost lagery.

Tangy with wheat and lemony nuances, but mostly wheat and pils-like grassiness. German hop engineering sprout forth with balancing bitterness and herbal flavors. Some leafiness. Malts have that wheat wetness with a touch of cracked rice in the flavor. Light and sudsy. Dialed up effervescence. Easy drinking and pleasantly enjoyable. A tangy kolsch worth remembering.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Bright yellow, almost like a clear neon straw color, with a finger of whtie fizzy head, no lacing.
S - Grains, a little spice, sweet lemon.
T - Mostly grains, some yeast, a little peppery spice, sugary lemon candy, a touch of earthy kinda grass.
M - I gave this a 4 because you can drink this super easily. Ice cold on a scorching hot day? Yes please.
O - I wish this were in cans, because I'd actually drink more of it during summer months. Its got a decent refreshing quality, but its not gonna blow anyone away thats for sure.

Penn Brewing Cool River Kolsch
Appears glowing golden with fluffy thick head fine lace layers left behind. Aroma has biscuit pale malts with a blast of herbal grassy hops, this is a beautiful especially fresh it can't be beat. Taste wise it's liquid bread basically competes with any of the German versions imported stateside. The only note that isn't German is a bit of medicinal notes, fruity notes roll with it to clean things up a bit. Mouthfeel is smooth creamy textured light bodied meant for drinking. Overall it can't be beat drink local enjoy a Kolsch in your area if you want one in the states if you want to experience Kolsch go to Koln and drink it up!

Poured from a brown bottle into pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a very lightly hazed straw color with a billowy white head. The head fades in about 3 min to leave a nice level of lacing.

Smell – The aroma is bready and skunky in nature. With these stronger aromas is a lighter citrus hop smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a bready flavor mixed with a light citrus flavor of lemon. As the taste advances further the bready flavors grow stronger with the citrus growing weaker. While this occurs some skunky flavors begin working their way to the tongue which grows rather stronger and stronger. A bitter hop flavor of a citrus and herbal nature come to the tongue and mix with the rest to, in the end, leave a lightly bitter, bready, and skunked flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body for the beer is quite thin in terms of creaminess and chewiness with a carbonation level that is a little on the higher side.

Overall – Nothing really very good overall. For the style it was light and crisp, but the flavor profile was rather off putting with a rather offensive aftertaste.

A new offering from Penn? Hell yeah!

A - Pours a clear straw yellow color with a 1/2 inch of foamy white head. No complaints here.

S - Smell is of floral hops, sweet malts, yet I am not getting much bread or fruity yeasts.

T - Well it's very easy to drink but it kind of lacks more of the flavors of a full bodied Kolsch. I get the hops and sweet malts but were is the bready body or touch of lemon? Granted it was refreshing but I expected more.

M - Light to medium again a great summer beer.

Overall this seems to be just like their last years attempt at a summer beer "Summer Berry Weisse" It's light on flavor yet it was pretty good.
