Bought a bottle of this at the Waterbury Village Market yesterday morning on my way to the Lawson's 6th Anniversary celebration in Waitsfield. The price was right ($4), Woodstock's Pig's Ear Brown Ale is one of my personal favorites, and I'm still hopeful to find a maple infused beer that actually has a maple taste.

Poured from the 22 oz. bomber into a stemmed tulip glass.

a; Brown to black with plenty of clear ruby when seen through light. An inch tall off white head receded to thin surface foam and spotty lacing.

s: Vaguely sweet.,

t: Dark fruit with some hop bite. Slightly bitter finish.

m: Light to moderate.

o: The added maple syrup from a local supplier appears to have mainly neutralized the porter's usual dark roasty malt, coffee and chocolate flavors. The net effect is different and drinkable but leans more to Belgian dark fruity esters than maple flavor.

Appearance - poured silky black with a decent 1/2" head

Smell - sweet hints of maple syrup come through in the aroma.

Taste - the smell of maple syrup had an excellent follow through in the taste. Sweet but not to sweet.

Mouthfeel - the aftertaste of the maple syrup ligers slightly and the cheewiness of porter comes through after the sweetness.

Overall - the was a very good maple porter. Definite taste of maple in this beer, unlike other maple porters I've had in the past. Probably only negative was the twist off top.
