From a 500 ml. bottle with an expiration date of May 2012. Sampled on March 25, 2012. It has the classic brown ale dark amber to brown pour with a decent off-white head that settles down to a ring. There are plenty of sweet malts and yeast on the nose but the hols are more mellow and subtle considering its higher IBU rating. The body is above average. This has the classic brown ale taste with an upfront sweet nuttiness but quickly stalked by a high bitter hoppiness. Pungent in that regard. Still a nice beer.

Pours a brilliant deep copper almost brown color a fairly small tan head that I had to coax out with a vigorous pour. Smells of butterscotch mostly. Bits of earthy hop and caramel are in there somewhere but I get lots of diacetyl out of this one. Taste is caramel malt toffee and butterscotch with a definite earthy hop bite in there. There's a certain mineral water quality in here as well with a lingering earthy hop bitterness in the finish. Medium body and level of carbonation with a sweet slick mouthfeel. 74 IBU's is a bit surprising, maybe if they were citrus or pine they would have stood up to the butter a little better. This drinks better than it smells, but it really didn't excite me.

The bottle says a cross of a brown ale and a IPA. Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass. Pours a clear mahogany with a 2 inch fluffy light tan head, with lots of lacing. Smell is brown sugar, carmel, bread, toffee, and a hint of pine. Taste is that, pretty sweet, lots of brown sugar a little bite in the finish. The body is a little thin, good carbonation, some dryness, and easy drinking and little warming that goes with the name. This is definitely better than there brown ale Pigs Ear and for fans of brown ales will like it. It says 74 IBU's.

I don't know why this is classified as an APA when it says its a cross between a brown ale and an IPA.... You'd figure they'd classify it as one of those, but someone entered it as an APA I guess.
pours a translucent amber/brown with a nice tan dense head that retains well and laces well.
getting some nut brown type maltiness, butterscotch, and toffee. not much in terms of hops on the aroma, unfortunately.
ugh. nope. not hoppy at all, a bit sweet, not very roasty, full of diacetyl. terrible.
thin bodied, very little carbonation.
a few sips of this, and the rest is going down the drain. Had hopes of a DFH indian brown, or stone more brown than black IPA or something along those lines. This is just an off-flavored mess.
