I've been on a quest since time immemorial (i.e. like, the last eight months or so) to find the perfect pumpkin ale. You know, THAT pumpkin ale, the one that really does taste like pumpkin pie and doesn't just try to taste like pumpkin pie. I'm convinced it exists in some obscure corner of the world. So, will this be the one pumpkin ale to rule them all? (Spoiler alert: it is not.) Thirsy Dog's stab at the style pours the typical pumpkin orange, placid and hazy with some fluffy white head. The aroma is more pumpkin-forward than other pumpkin ales I've sniffed. It's more a fleshy pumpkin rind that more fully captures the essence of the fruit. The more pumpkin and less spices approach carries over to the palate as well, though there are some strong cinnamon and ginger notes up front. It's a bit thin and grainy mid-sip with a fantastic finish of pumpkin pie crust, ginger and bread. Very smooth on the tongue. I like the pumpkin prominence, but the mild spices and grainy mellowness leaves me wanting more. The search continues...

Pours a crystal clear light orange color, nice foamy head that lingers. Light pumpkin spice aroma, I get cinnamon and clove e most. Flavor is cinnamon sugar, fairly sweet, light allspice. Pretty drinkable at 5%, the sweetness becomes a bit undesirable after a while. Crisp and clean. Overall a decent pumpkin beer, prob won’t buy again.

12oz bottle poured into a goblet

A- pours a clear amber color with a one-finger foamy white head that reduces to a ring around the edge

S- heavy pumpkin spices on the nose; nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, allspice. There's also a bit of a vanilla creamy undertone that gives the impression of pie filling

T- flavor predominately has a vegetal flavor, which even manages to overpower the spice notes. Mid-palate does have some cinnamon and nutmeg pop through, the finish gives more vegetal notes that continues through the linger

M- medium body with light carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel that continues into the finish

O- the vegetal notes were too much, even overpowering the spices

This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a hazy orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing all along the glass. The smell had some pumpkin up front with a nice allocation of cinnamon, allspice and ginger. The taste was there as it took the previously mentioned flavors and combined them really nicely. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium with a slight sessionability about it. Carbonation was somewhat smooth. Overall, always a nice pumpkin ale to have in the Fall if you're able to get it.

Clear dark reddish amber with a soft off white head that dies to a thick collar and thin film leaving a little clingy soft lace.

Smell is freshly roasted and caramelized pumpkin--that full on Fall squash, without much spice at all. Like mashing up freshly cooled, roasted pumpkin for a pie before adding the spices. There may be a hair of brown sugar, and some gooey pie crust attributed to the malt.

Taste is just an overload of really nice, rounded pumpkin, first and foremost. This is the most pumpkin forward, pumpkin FIRST pumpkin ale I've ever had. Spices are minimal, again, I'm tasting very similar notes found in the aroma, such as brown sugar and pie crusty malt.

Feel is tingly and tangy--this is a light, crisp body that is very drinkable for a pumpkin ale, and finishes semi dry.

For those that hate the spice bombs of the holiday creep beers, this is for you.

12 ounce bottle served in a pint glass.

Pours a clear, medium amber color with a 1 finger head. Minimal lacing.

Smells biscuity and slightly spicy,

The taste is a little too harsh for me with the spices (cinnamon, allspice, etc)

Slight pumpkin taste.

Not worthy spending for the whole 4-pack IMO.
