My first review. And what better way than to start with some porters?
Poured into a pint glass, the color is not quite black, with hints of rust color-red when held up to the light. A decent quarter inch light tan head dissipates quickly, leaving little lacing.
Smells of caramel and malt, reminiscent somehow of some German beers I've had in the past. The hops don't really seem to come through in the smell. It smells delicious, but seems a bit two-dimensional. Maybe lacking some complexity.
Now onto the taste... The taste offers a little bit more complexity than the smell, and I was pleasantly surprised by a good balance between a bit of a bitter bite, and a smooth, chocolatey malt flavor. The alcohol is nicely disguised in the taste, and comes out just a bit on the aftertaste. Definitely not bad!
There's a good bit of carbonation, which helps bring out the bitterness in the taste. At the same time, it's got a nice smooth texture which nicely compliments the malt.
Overall, I'm happy with Old Leghumper. The smell could be a little more interesting to match the taste, but this is a very drinkable beer, and I would probably be interested in getting ahold of some more down the road. However, I won't be rushing out to buy a case of it any time soon. There are just too many other beers yet to try!

appearance- It's a rich dark brown with a half finger head that quickly goes away
smell- the smell is a refreshing mocha-coffee smell. It smells very sweet and bourbon like.
taste- you get a lot of mocha flavor in this beer. maybe a little bit of a sweet bourbon taste which i really like. The finish is a drier coffee taste which lingers for a while on the tongue and cheeks and leaves the mouth dry. I am not of fan of beer that finish in this way nor am I a fan of the way this one finished however, I am a fan of this beer.
Mouth feel is very wet and smooth. not creamy at all. this is quite a lot of carbonation, almost too much for a porter I think. I'd prefer a little less carbonation when I'm drinking a porter or stout.
Overall- This is a good beer to sit down with and have with a dinner. I might buy this beer again. definitely not a session beer. I do like this though but for some reason this beer is a little harder for me to judge.
