Living in Ohio with this absurd 12% cap it's always lovely to see decent bourbon barrel beers and lets be honest you need beer to live in Ohio.
Pour a dark body with a reasonable head given the barrel aging. The beer body provides reasonable legs and some nice bubbles form around the glass.
As on would expect dark chocolate, sugar, molasses, and hints of coffee are pretty apparent. The vanilla and oak notes come through as well. It's a nice imperial stout aroma.
There seems to be a bit of floral hops and bitterness opening this beer up with the chocolate and coffee notes coming later. The barrel seems to increase the sweetness but doesn't impart an overt bourbon flavor. Just some added vanilla and a touch of oak.
The goal with any barrel aged stout is for it to be creamy and thick. This somewhat misses, it's a hair thin. And the carbonation is a bit on the sharp weak bubbled that doesn't add value.
A really nice beer but at 24 for a 4 pack it doesn't really hold up next to the other great barrel aged stouts. Still it does it's job. It's good. I'll buy again, but I won't be stocking up on it.

On tap at a local C-Bus joint. Finger of off-white head over a deep, rich dark brown body. V. nice looker (just like my date!). Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey on the nose. I hope that you like whiskey. Same song as far as the flavors go... with just a hint of dark fruit emerging from the whiskey river towards the end as it warmed. Good carbonation (surprisingly), and a nice smooth mouthfeel. Perfect feel for a BBS. Well, I hope that you are ready for a whiskey punch in the face. It could use some time to mellow, and I am sure that this is much better with a little age on it. It was ok... but I wouldn't push my grandmother out of the way to get one. I am now becoming convinced that I enjoy BB-aged beers much more from a bottle, with at least a year under their belts... on tap may be too fresh, and too whiskey for my personal liking. I would like to give the standard Siberian Night a go some time... I am sure it is quite good.
