Served alongside the standard Siberian Night.

The beer is opaque and near black with a thin beige cap. Sparse lacing. The aroma offers bourbon, oak, roast, malt, char. The base beer is definitely recognizable throughout, and not overrun by the barrel character. Milk chocolates and bourbon. Mild sweetness and seriously delicious. Outstanding.

Pours dark silky black into a snifter.. Looks viscose.. Deep espresso foam head that recedes quickly. Nose is sweet and smoky, you can smell the chocolate. Bourbon showcased very well in the taste.. Not overwhelmingly boozy at first but thick and hearty with a wallop of sweet heat towards the end. Overall a knock out of one of my favorite styles.

2013 Vintage poured into brandy snifter.

A - Black on Black with some caramel head.

S - milk chocolate and creamy sweetness mixed with bourbon. Smells like a bourbon covered hot fudge sundae.

T - lots of chocolate and espresso blended very smoothly with the barrel. Alcohol is apparent but almost perfect. Very well done.

M - heavy but still smooth and creamy.

O - damn good BBA stout

12oz. bottle into a Cigar City snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a .5 finger dark mocha colored head with little retention. Beer is a dense, opaque pitch black. Lacing is stringy and spotty with solid stick and big, oily legs. Really nice.

Nose is molasses, cocoa, anise, sweet soy sauce, dark fruit, roasted malt and booze. Deliciously deep and robust.

Opens espresso, dark chocolate, fudge, and roasted malt. Dark fruit flavors fade in gradually mixed with fudge and cocoa in the middle supplemented by a slight booziness in the background. Very sweet. A slight soy sauciness at the finish balanced by chocolate and more molasses and leather in the aftertaste. Awesome!

Full bodied with low carbonation. Oily and slick in the mouth and goes down warm and slightly boozy. Messy finish with a lingering, sticky aftertaste. Great for the style and flavor.

I dare say that this rivals BCBS in terms of availability/quality ratio. A very under the radar brew that's certainly worth seeking out!

Date: 6/5/14
Location: Hoptron Brewtique
Glassware: Tulip

Appearance: Black with no opaqueness. Lightly browned/caramel carbonation ring is all that remains from a pinky sized head that reduced quickly.
Aroma: Big smells of both sweet and bittering chocolate, caramel, toffee, and vanilla. Some roasted espresso aromas. Light bourbon and even lighter oak smell.
Taste: When the beer is colder the coffee and bitter chocolate flavors power through. But as the beer warms you really start to get the more balanced bourbon, coffee, toffee, vanilla flavors. There are big alcohol flavors as the beer warms as well.
Mouthfeel: Medium heavy to Heavy in body. Moderate to moderate high carbonation. High alcohol viscosity creates a very oily mouthfeel which reaches every corner of my mouth.

Notes: Wulver clearly holds the edge in the BBAged Thirsty Dog competition. But anyone who has either is clearly the winner.

Pours a deep, dark brownish black with half an inch of brown, foamy head. The nose has notes of deep roasted malts and chocolate. The taste is licorice and anise up front with chocolate and roasted malts in the finish. The alcohol adds some warmth and some faint esters to the finish. There's also a faint hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is full bodied, smooth, and mildly carbonated.

Overall this is a solid beer. A sipper for sure, but solid and delicious.
