Citra Dog Brewed by Thirsty Dog Brewing Company, with an ABV of 6.50% This brew pours out a deep golden amber color, with a nice white head. This brew has the look of most IPA's on the market, not saying that is a bad thing. The smell of Citra dog is rich with hops, citrus , grains , and malts. There is also some bitterness from the citrus. Citra Dog is a real inviting brew, now for the taste. The taste of Citra Dog is bold with hops, grains, and malts. You pick up a hit of grapefruit in the taste of this brew. Citra Dog has a nice smooth balance to it, even the hops and citrus are nicely done in this brew. There is nothing really overpowering about this brew. You really can't pick up on the 6.50% ABV in this brew , it just that smooth. The mouthfeel of Citra Dog is Bold , smooth, clean and refreshing. Overall I'm giving Citra Dog a 4.5 out of 5. I would buy this brew again. Thirsty Dog Brewing Company , did a nice job with this one.

Citra Dog | Thirsty Dog Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this beer's head is two fingers thick and off-white, with web-like lacing, and a clear straw gold/amber body.

I smell not quite much citrus-y hops as the label implies, but still a noticeable element thrown in there along with the malts used with this concoction. The higher ABV isn't detectable just by the smell alone; which I consider a plus ;)

Tastes like a very well-executed balance of the components described above with an overall hop oil bitterness that is trying its best to linger on the tongue, but it goes away after about 2-3 more breaths that help ventilate the palate.

The mouthfeel I'm getting with this brew is light and very crisp. Mild carbonation as well.

Overall, I'll rate Citra Dog | Thirsty Dog Brewing Company with a 4.5. As most other BA's have noted, including myself in the "smell" discipline of the review, this could use a fair amount of extra Citra hops to really and truly live up to our expectations as beer geeks. Besides that little qualm, its a very drinkable IPA.

On draft, in a shaker pint glass

Clear golden, foamy white head. Nice citrus and lemon hop aroma. Minimal malt flavor, the hops dominate. Medium bodied.

2-27-16 - On cask at Spotted Pig in Greenwich Village, NYC. Pumped into dimpled pineapple mug. Light straw yellow with frothy white head that clung to the inside of the glass. Super smooth and tasty.

Pours a light yellow color. Smell is of awesome citrus fruits as normally present with Citra hops. Taste is not too sophisticated with a basic citrus hop taste but nothing powerful. Solid mouthfeel and finish. Reminds me more of a regular pale ale than an IPA. Solid beer for fans of citra hops.

Nice clear golden IPA. Plenty of head. Nice hoppy smell with some citrus. Not a lot of fruit, though, and I would expect more with a citra IPA. Crisp, bitter, and refreshing taste. Nice refreshing carbonation.

I don't see a date on the bottle, so I'm not sure how fresh it is--maybe would be amazing if fresh, but I cannot be sure.

definitely not the best use of citra hops I can think of, and because of the hype some of their beers carry, I expected quite a bit more out of this one. its a fine brew, nothing wrong with it really, just not really anything special. surprised to see it called an ipa, I see it much more as a pale ale. almost no hop bitterness on the back end of this, or rather enough malt flavor to balance what is there, and not anywhere near as much citra as I wish their was. I can tell its citra, but they seem faded out to me, like this is old, but it isn't. lost maybe in a slightly metallic sea of grain. maybe not dosed highly enough, maybe not much of a dry hopping. the beer seems to me to be a little over balanced, cautious or something. not bad, just uninspiring. I picked this up as a single with a bunch of other beers from these guys, and I hope that the others impress a bit more. apparently newly distributed to the upstate New York area, I suspect their beers will sell pretty well here, but this one did not live up to its full potential...

This beer pours a slightly hazy bright golden color with a 1 finger fluffy white head. Retention is minimal, but lacing is excellent. The aroma is where this beer really shines. Huge amounts of citrus fruits, most notably tangerine, orange and grapefruit bursts out of the glass. The taste is similar, very citrus forward, but the malt and bitterness on the back end kind if muddle it up. Feel is light and crisp, good carbonation. Overall a very tasty beer, but could be better. Also note that citra hops are far and away my favorite, so my rating may be a little skewed.

12oz bottle served in a tulip. Brought to me by the refulgent @mr-jj. No dates that I can see.

Pours hazy golden with a big head that dissipates at a medium pace. Medium to low carbonation, an odd juxtaposition with the big head. Smell is a bit o' cat pee, which I don't usually recognize as cat pee, so it's probably pretty strong. Still fairly citrus, a little fresh grass.

Taste is mild -- soft, round, malty. It would make for a nice pale ale, but it's a little mild for an IPA. Some resiny characteristic, which is nice.

Mouthfeel is velvety. Overall, not bad at all.

Poured into an IPA glass from a 12 oz bottle brought back from NYC.

Pours a straw color with a thin white head. Aroma is some citrus, some hay. Fairly muted. Flavor is okay - more malty than I expected. Overall, it's okay and I'd drink it again, but I wouldn't seek it out.

Clear yellow, light head.
It smells like Citra! Like, a lot. I love that.
It's more mellow in the taste. Quite malty. The Citra is pleasant. Not overdone.
Really nice pale ale. Drinkable, enjoyable, and pleasant.

Color seems weak, maybe like a straw color. Smell was a faint IPA smell. Taste is a redeemer though. Was honestly expecting something flat but its got some flavor, maybe a little juicy. Smooth finish with little to no bite and a tad aftertaste. Not bad but not one of my top 10 either.

Bought a single bottle from AJs Beer Warehouse, July 2015. Served at fridge temp in a Duvel Tulip.

L: Hazy apricot, thick white head, nice lacing.

S: Strong Eucalyptus, nothing else
T: strong herbal bitterness, not much else
F: good, solid
O: getting tired of IPAs

Nothing more than an OK offering from Thirsty Dog. Try if offered, but don't go out of your way to seek. The citra notes are subdued by what I can only perceive as a lack of overall balance.

Pours a clear amber with one finger thick creamy white head, settles to a thin ring, splotches of lace on the glass. Smell: grassy, tangerine, light biscuit. Taste: grapefruit, orange peel, grassy, dried sugared mango note, more sugary pale malt. Body is really cut by the bitterness, thinning out and finishing a bit chalky. Decent but easily the most disappointing citra IPA I've had.

Slightly hazy, amber pour with a lacy head.
Funky, skunky, super hoppy, citrus aroma.
Tastes are that of citrus his, sweet, funky pine and bubble gum taste.
Mouth feel is really bitter. Pleasant bitter!
This is a really good modern IPA! WELL done Indianapolis!

Cool name/branding, Citra IPAs get my excited. but this left me questioning a lot. Big bitterness through and through, not a particularly pretty pour, murky brown. The beer itself is heavy and malty, and still bitter. kinda rough. No bottled on date, it's possible this may just be an old bottle(?) I hope. Not my Jam

This was terrible. Bottom of bottle may have shown a Julian date: 4130, which I'm afraid indicates it's a year old.

Cloudy orange, frothy foam, looks nice enough.

Smell is all gross wet grains, silage, moldy bread.

Taste is sweet then bitter. Caramel malt and dandelion green bitterness. Bleh. Medium bodied, average carbonation. Nothing special, would have to try a fresh sample to re-rate.

A: clear; copper colored; 2+ finger ivory head that receded slowly to a thick cap; very nice lacing;

S: catty;

T: catty as well, although there are tropical fruit and citrus notes in the background; moderate bitterness on the finish;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: not the Citra notes I expected;

Poured out of a 12 bottle into one of my pint glasses, this beer pours a clear, light to medium golden color with lots of streams of little bubbles rapidly and continuously rising to the beer's surface. Has a white head that is about 2/3 of an inch thick when first poured before settling to a solid 1/4 of an inch thick with good lacing. Aromas of citrus, floral, dank pine hops followed by some biscuit malty mild sweetness. The taste is pretty much the same, with nice citrusy, grapefruit, resinous, piney, floral hop flavors upfront that give way to some biscuity, bready, mild malt sweetness. The hop flavor certainly does dominate, but this beer is not overly bitter. The other aforementioned aspects of the hop profile have quite a nice presence. Has a slightly crisp, mainly smooth and creamy and frothy, medium bodied mouthfeel with light to moderate carbonation. Finishes clean with a bit of a dry aftertaste. Very drinkable and refreshing on this very warm spring night here in Cleveland.

couldn't find a date code, and i suspect this was an older bottle, because i am not getting any of those beautiful citrus notes you'd expect from citra. nice malt body, though.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into brandy glass

A - A golden dandelion body with a fantastically frothy white head. Ample lacing.

S - Characteristic Citra hop smell. The mix of bright citrus, fresh flowers, dank hemp, and onion. Not overpowering, but still crisp and pleasant.

T - Much like the smell, the vitrus, floral, dank, and savory flavors complement a light, biscuity malt backbone. The balance is superb, as the honey notes from the malt perfectly accent the citrus and flower from the hops. The finish has a refined bitterness and citrus.

M - The mouthfeel is creamy and bready. Carbonation is spot-on.

O - With a relative abundance of citra hop brews out there, this one is quite good. I have never had Zombie Dust, but this is probably the second best I have sampled after Tree House Eureka. I had a Citra Mantra immediately following the Citra Dog and the Thirsty Dog was the far superior ale. Glad I picked this up on my trip to Asheville!

From a bottle. Loght golden body with a big pungent sweet resin aroma. Lots of citrus flavor, but I also get a hint of onion taste. Not really digging the savory flavors or the hint of onion. Maybe this would be a good beer to cook with. Not one of the better citra hop examples
