A: Good clarity with a light orange coloring and moderate show of carbonation. Buff 1 finger head has a whipped cream texture and is strong on the hold. Whispy, wavey, thinly spread lace with a lasting head coverage through most of the drink.

S: Sweet grapefruit, sticky pine resin, mango-orange, tropical fruit with a perfumy delivery and moderate amount of strength.

T: Fresh, wet, citron-line hints. nice. Sweet grains, followed by a semi-tart tropical fruitiness of mango-oganges. Citrus peel, sticky pine, grapefruit with some floral hops are lightly dry. Flowery coating, lightly dry stalky barley, with a farewell of dry oranges, greapefruit flower on the swallow.

M: sticky, lightly toasted, lightly dry with a feel good carbonation rate.

O: Overall has a good level of aroma and flavor with a balance of bittering hops, not just a one trick pony ipa but is balanced nicely between the 3 aspects. Sticky hop resins, nice citra hop profile, flavorful, yet easy and sessionable for multiples. I would keep this on hand for casual, enjoyable drinking when not reviewing. case worthy.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a somewhat murky, brown-orange color and a cloudy texture. There was an inch of foamy, long-lasting head. Great lacing.

S: A decent enough aroma of hops, malt, pine, and a bready quality.

T: Tasted of hops, a good shot of pine, some light citrus (grapefruit), malt, and the aforementioned bready quality. There's a strong hops bitterness to this (a bit much in my estimation) that throws it off kilter. Still, a pretty good flavor.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

O: An uneven IPA in many respects. Citra Dog is worth a shot, but there are better examples of the style out there.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Pours clear gold with one finger of white sudsy head, medium lacing.
S - Big Pine, grapefruit, fresh bread malt.
T - Very assertive bitterness, lots of grapefruit and pine, mild bready and crackery malt underneath.
M - Too bitter, what the heck.
O - The taste is too bitter to really be enjoyable the best parts of the citra hop are sorely missed in this brew.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass; no bottle dating, but was released recently. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of big orange zest, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon zest, tangerine, floral, grass, slight pine, light caramel, bread, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of hop notes with a moderate malt balance; and good strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, pineapple, tangerine, floral, grass, light pine, light caramel, bread, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pineapple, floral, grass, light pine, light caramel, bread, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of hop flavors; with a moderate malt balance and minimal astringent bitterness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a slightly creamy, crisp, and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice IPA. All around good complexity of hop flavor with a moderate malt balance; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Thirsty Dog
Citra Dog

LOOK: Pours a light golden orange with a dense head consisting of tiny bubbles. Really retains well and leaves rings of lace on the pint.

AROMA: Citrus, pine, a bit of pineapple. A bit of herb.

TASTE: Firm bitterness with lots of earth, pine and dirty citrus notes. Some mango and lemon are in the flavor profile as well, cut early by intense bitterness stinging the palate. This pale ale is trademark citra all the way.

FEEL: Light to medium bodied, well carbonated, crisp and refreshing. It also coats the palate with hop oils, this is a hopped up ale for certain. Doesn't hold the carbonation well, which makes for a slicker than standard feel.

OVERALL: Another great American IPA featuring the Citra hop, which has become increasingly popular due to its intense tropical flavor and solid bittering properties. One of the best beers made by Thirsty Dog to hit the market in quite some time.

Found a single at D's six packs for $3.50. Into a pint glass.
A - Well off to a great start the color is a nice light amber brown, clear with a 1/4 inch of head that sticks around for a bit leaving some decent lacing.
S - Well not in your face juicy hops but it does have a decent level of citrus and pineapple hops. Not much malt I can smell though.
T - Decent level of bitterness quite herbal and hoppy leaving a minty harsh twang on the tongue well after each sip. Somewhat balanced with mild crystal and sweet cracker malts but definitely bitter beer.
M - Medium bodied and the hops make it chewy.

Overall nothing I would track down again but recommended for hop lovers. Very bitter and herbal.

Pours with a small head that clings to the glass. Smell features the hops and the grapefruit flavor that they deliver. The taste is all about the grapefruit again, with pine flavor in there too. The malt adds a little balance but doesn't add much in terms of flavor. If you're expecting a beer with orange and lemon flavors, this certainly won't bring that, and the name "Citra Dog" seems a bit misleading. However, the strong grapefruit flavor is nice if you're into that (I'm ambivalent). The mouthfeel is thin for an IPA and the beer goes down very easily for it being a fairly potent brew. Overall, this is a nice brew. The suggested temperature is 37 degrees, and I drank it at around that temperature, but I wonder if there might be more complexity when it warms up a bit.

A: Pours a clear golden yellow with a finger of white head that fades into a thin ring with a little lacing.

S: Lot of grassy hops with some pine and grapefruit aromas. It's a very dry and earthy smelling beer.

T: Similar to the aroma, there are a lot of dry and earthy hop flavors. Pine, grasses, citrus rind, and some spicy herbs. The finish is moderately bitter.

M: Medium body and carbonation, this beer is light and a little sudsy feeling, but avoids being watery or oily.

O: A decent IPA overall with unique hop profile and is dry and drinkable.
