A - Black. Jet black. Absolutely opaque. Little bit of brown-red foam on top. Perfect for the style, except for one thing - I can see just far enough into it to see that there's a *lot* of sediment in there. Nothing on the bottle mentioned having to pour slowly. Got to dock points for that.
S - Caramel and molasses. Smells as dark as it looks. Can't smell it from across the room, but at least can smell it from a few inches away.
T - There's that molasses again - a lot of it. Some hop bitterness is there in the taste that isn't there in the smell. And yeah, that 9.7% ABV makes itself known. Long lingering toasted malt finish. Good stuff, although not as complex as some others.
M - Well, at least I can't *taste* all that sediment I saw. Rich and creamy, just like you'd hope for. Not quite as heavy as some others in the style - but for a Russian Imperial, I want it heavy.
Overall, well, that's 4s down the line. A good choice in the category, although not a world-beater.

Bottle purchased at World Market in Charlotte, NC for $2. No freshness or bottling date on label.
A - Pours very dark, almost black. A fluffy tan head sits for a minute or two before dissipating. Great retention and good lacing. Probably the most carbonated RIS I've ever seen.
S - Bittersweet chocolate, touch of coffee. A hint molasses and black licorice is coming through. A noticeable aroma of alcohol also lingers.
T - Nice blend of all the mentioned aromas. They all blend together in this one beautifully. Dark chocolate maltiness at first, followed by coffee beans and licorice as well. Bittersweet chocolate then fades to a roasted finish. Very nice and well balanced brew.
M - Medium bodied and quite carbonated. I would like it more if it were thicker and the carbonation were toned down a bit. Warming is noticeable in my throat and gut.
O - Tasty, enjoyable beer. I would probably enjoy it more on a chilly winter day, as opposed to an 82º summer afternoon. Not my favorite RIS, but one I'll definitely have again.
