12oz bottle poured into snifter.
Pours black with a thick dark khaki head, which hangs for minute. Lots of roasted chocolate in the nose. Small hints of espresso, plum, and figs. There's a good balance of dark fruit and chocolate going on here.
The taste carries over much of the aroma, namely the chocolate. While not huge or overpowering the bitter chocolate seems to be the biggest note at work here. Not much espresso working, but the dark fruits round out the bitterness of the chocolate.
The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, the ABV is noticeable but not by much. A bit drying on the palate. This beer has some good qualitys but mainly lacks in intensity. When drinking a RIS I want big bold notes, with this one it's softer and doesn't last as long. Still, for the price and availability this one will get another look from me.

Bottle purchased at World Market in Charlotte, NC for $2. No freshness or bottling date on label.
A - Pours very dark, almost black. A fluffy tan head sits for a minute or two before dissipating. Great retention and good lacing. Probably the most carbonated RIS I've ever seen.
S - Bittersweet chocolate, touch of coffee. A hint molasses and black licorice is coming through. A noticeable aroma of alcohol also lingers.
T - Nice blend of all the mentioned aromas. They all blend together in this one beautifully. Dark chocolate maltiness at first, followed by coffee beans and licorice as well. Bittersweet chocolate then fades to a roasted finish. Very nice and well balanced brew.
M - Medium bodied and quite carbonated. I would like it more if it were thicker and the carbonation were toned down a bit. Warming is noticeable in my throat and gut.
O - Tasty, enjoyable beer. I would probably enjoy it more on a chilly winter day, as opposed to an 82º summer afternoon. Not my favorite RIS, but one I'll definitely have again.
