Paid the premium on this $4.50 for the single, at the House of 1,000 beers.

A - Nice 5 months old and no sediment! Head is a fairly sweet 1/3 inch of deep mocha greatness. Beer itself is rather thick with a deep level of blackness.
S - The honey adds another level of dry yet fairly sweet, underneath this is some mocha, chocolate malty goodness, and roast. Smells like a balanced RIS.
T - Pretty good the taste is chalky roasts, some chocolate malt, and a finish of dry faded honey. Hoppy bitter edge is kind of distracting and adds more of a dry feeling to the honey.
M - A touch lighter than typical RIS its medium bodied, fairly creamy yet kind of thin.

Overall not having a honey stout this one is fairly tasty. Nothing I am going to run out and get again (and at almost 5 bucks a pop I shall not) but worth trying once.

Thirsty Dog Brewing : Last Mayan Dog

Pours a sexy dark brown, with a creamy light tan topping. Lots of lacing, and overall looks the part of a stout. In the aroma, some roast, honey, coffee and vanilla. In the flavor, dark malts, tempered sweetness and a small cinnamon like spice. Coffee and honey come out a bit more in the aftertaste. Full bodied, creamy, very smooth feel. Overall this was quite nice. I could spend time drinking a few of these, but it appears this was a limited release.

The honey really comes on heavy at first here. It seems to tone down and a roasted, mildly sweet thing takes over. Don't get much chocolate on here really, but there is a cocoa tone mildly present. A decent beer; though not showing a whole lot of balance. Who cares though, right? We should all just be glad the world has not ended!

A - black with a soft, thick, brown head that has decent retention

S - sweet honey, some faint roasted malts, some faint cocoa

T - honey, roasted malts, cocoa nibs, creamy, some faint alcohol, some faint citrus

M - medium to full bodied, warm, well carbonated

Well, I like the concept even though I had this beer far after the end of the Mayan calendar. The flavor is far more honey than anything else. The underlying stout is nice but the sweetness of the honey and some faint citrus notes take away from the cocoa and roasted malt notes. I'm glad that I tried this once, but it's not a stout that I'll pick up again.

Presentation: Really cool artwork/graphics in the traditional Thirsty Dog fashion. Label also gives a small description of the beer, IBU info, ABV info, and web info. The Thirsty Dog cap and logo are awesome.

Appearance: I allowed Last Dog to warm for 10min before pouring it from its 12oz bottle into a 16oz English pint. Pours out a deep dark brown almost black color with a 2 finger brown head of medium density. Head retention was 3min 22sec before turning to a nice frothy coating and ring. Very good lacing.

Smell/Aroma: A deep roasted coffee malt scent is very prevalent in the nose along with a chocolate scent. Smell is on the sweeter side.

Flavor/Taste: A herbal grassy flavor hits the palette right away along with a slight honey sweetness. This is followed by a roast coffee and chocolate taste that is very intense before finishing with a coffee bitterness and then aftertaste. Honey comes through even more as this continues to warm.

MouthFeel/Drinkability: Medium bodied and smooth with a slightly creamy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. This is a very very drinkable beer.

Overall/Comments: I must say I went in with high expectation and while I thought this was a very respectable offering I expected more. I would have liked to see a bit less roast and a bit more honey. Classifed as an American Double/Imperial Stout at 7%. Consumed 1-22-13.

Mayan Last Dog. Label shows the 12.21.12 date of the supposed end-of-the-world. It's not a bottle date or best by date. I poured my share into a snifter.

Translucent stout beer of a dark molasses color. A few spare bubbles didn't pop and remained on the surface, and that's all the head that formed despite me not tilting the glass and pouring straight down into the bowl of the snifter.

Straight-shooting malts in the nose. Barely a zip of hops. Smells sweet and creamy, but there is an undercurrent of roast that could mean something more robust in the taste. Picking up some chocolate, some golden raisin, and a few herbal notes. A little too straightforward. Not much to analyze.

The hops are right there on the first sip, all of a sudden, offering herbal and citrus notes. Clover honey is upfront, probably from being pronounced by other herbal/grassy notes and some gooey sweetness. But, this beer has some firm malt roast bitterness that dries out most of the honey and leaves the chocolate tones to come across as cocoa powder. Hints of mace and cinnamon stick become almost residual in the finish. Surprisingly tasty.

Very smooth, but mostly because the body is so thin. Thin for the style. The carbonation is decent, in that it stays out of the way and tries to dwarf itself to make the body seem more respectable. I must say it's sickly drinkable, as you could imagine.

The honey and chocolate and spices played together into a nice combo, and I'd like to see something like this replicated by another brewery--someone who could give it some more 'oomph'.

12oz. Blackish pour, some brown, a thin layer off white head. Sticks to the glass just a bit.

Aroma, lots of roast, mostly malt some coffee. Some caramel and dry cocoa. A little herbal hops.

Taste, Roasty again, mostly roast malt up front. Some caramel and dark chocolate. Some peat and ash. Kind of caramel mocha coffee finish. Hops don't really show up anywhere to me.

Solidly mid body, maybe just a tad thin. Not quite creamy level of carbonation. Drinks very easy. Just a little dry. More of a Foreign Stout to me. It is worth a try.

Poured a deep dark roasted chesnut brown with a one finger deep tannish colored head atop that lasted for quite awhile.Heavy coffee roast and char mainly in the nose, the coffee notes really stand out.Dry and big roast on the palate, charred with some mellow woodiness, only mild brown sugar-like sweetness.I like a roasted stout but I also like more sweet balance wich this lacks a little, still it's not bad.
