Stop in after reading Beer Advocates reviews and came away unimpress. While the owner was really friendly and knowlegdable about beers, the beer selection was small and did not completely whole up to the hype. The brews are located in the back corner of the store and on a rather small shelf. You can build your own six but not a lot to choose from. I had better luck at Downtown Produce were the selection was 10 times of D'vines. On the other hand, I do wish them luck, we need more stores in the area representing fine macrobrews.

A great selection of micro brews and wines. Ryan, the owner is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to micro brews and wine. He will spend as much time as it takes o make sure you come away with something good. He does not try to rush you to get to the next customer. Tell him what you like, and he will match you up with something good. They have build your own six pack, which is the only way to buy micro brews. If he doesn't carry something you want, he will see if he can get it for you.

They also do both beer and wine tastings as well as other special events.

A friend of mine recommended this place to me, so I eventually got around to making a stop here. First off, I have to say that Ryan, the owner is quite friendly and is quite knowledgeable about the beer he has in stock. He was happy to talk beer for quite a while with me (I was in on a weekday when it wasn't busy), and he certainly seems interested in knowing more about beer. He mentioned they do tastings and have the beginnings of a beer club. He was telling me he lets customers in the beer club decide which two beers to add every month (I don't believe he's limiting new beers to two a month though). He told me he planned on extending his selection, which isn't bad now for the area. He had a decent selection of micros, including Shipyard, Dogfish Head, Lost Coast, Tommyknocker, some Rogues, and I'm sure a few more that I don't remember. Decent selection of belgians, a bunch of Russian and former Russian republic beers and some other interesting imports. I bought a 4 pack sampler of Konings Hoeven with a glass, a czech beer that I never heard of (Extra Boom) and Bamberger Mahrs Christmas beer. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

I first noticed D'vines Wines Shop after reading an article in the local paper. I was impressed by what the owner was quoted as saying in the article, which was along the lines of that he admitted he was no expert on the wines and craft beers he was going to be selling, but that he was ready and willing to learn all he could about them. I liked the sound of this.

On my first visit to the store I was very impressed by the quality of beers on display. I actually spent a good half hour talking to the owner about beer and he explained what he was planning to do in the coming weeks. In addition to increasing the number of beers on sale, his primary focus was to showcase beers that were not available elsewhere in the area.

On this initial visit I was able to acquire a couple of my old favourites from England, which I have not been able to obtain previously. These were Black Sheep Riggwelter and Pendle Witches Brew and then a bottle of Old Ruffian by Great Divide.

There were plenty of other quality brands on display, ones I can recall included Rogue, Ommegang, Flying Dog and Ringwood, but this does scant justice to the range available.

The opening of this store is great news for craft beer enthusiasts in the Melbourne area, who until very recently were deprived of any kind of access to great beer. Get out and support this store, we need to repay this supply source with lots of demand.
