The Polar Pilsner from Venezuela, not what I expected - better actually - but not the best pilsner I've had either.
Polar serves up a mostly yellow hued brew with a frothy head that's got good staying power and lacing. I didn't notice much else other than the hops and malts you would expect, and it was way more carbonated for my liking. That said, it had thick, rich feel to it and was very crisp, very smooth. It's the kind of beer you can just guzzle because of how smooth it is. That much surprised me.

Seeming the flagship beer of Curacao, this Venezuela brewed lager presents itself in the miniature 8oz bottles and slather the island with its grainy-sweet taste and light tropical body.
Pouring the standard very light straw color, the brilliantly clear beer is even lighter than the fuller bodied all-malt lagers, insinuating adjuncts to lighten the taste and body. A light milky hue seeps into the visual illustration, partially reliant on the airy white head and fizzy champagne-like popping of bubbles.
Grain sweetness merges with pilsner malt for a scent of crackers and creamed corn. Lightly herbal from hops, a note of grass, lemon, and apple emerge. Dough, yeast, and baking bread weaves into the mix and gives an impression of cream ale.
Flavors similarly start off with a grainy-sweet taste of light breads, cream corn, spaghetti starch, and fresh beer mash. A timid hop balance brings about a pleasantly herbal mid palate of grass and spice before shyly balancing with bitterness to conclude the taste. An uprise of sulfur and mineral work to achieve interest in the form of apples, lemons, and crisp acidity.
Creamy yet light, the light fullness of malt and grain enrichen the mouth before a somewhat empty mid palate leaves the beer hanging before a grain derived astringency persists in aftertaste. Finishing lightly grainy, semi-dry, and with a light menthol sensation, the beer is well suited for island refreshment.
Those mini bottles may be very well suited for hot weather, fearing that a larger one would would warm up too quickly. That's just fine because without the refreshment of having a cold beer in hand, the beer offers little beer character to celebrate at warmer (more appropriate) temperatures.

Eight ounce can smuggled back from South America. Thanks sister!
A- Extremely pale gold color with a quickly dissipating head. Lively effervescence. Leaves a collar around the glass with a cap.
S- Sweet(!) pilsner/base malt on the nose. Rut-row!
T- Sweetness is kept in check in the taste, expected a malty mess from the aromas. Non-offensive besides minimal hay stankiness. No hop character really. Actually quite a clean finish.
M- Medium mouthfeel with adequate carbonation.
D/O- Not sure the meaning behind the 8 ounce cans but whatever. Not the best adjunct, certainly not the worst...better than a lot of it's American brethren. Clean finishes in the adjunct lager style is what I am into, this delivers that. Drink whilst in Venezuela!

had to try this while in Curacao. it really is the national beer of choice. cheaper than everything else, very bland and generally non-offensive.
nothing special at all about it. taste is sharp, flat corn. it takes a few to get over the taste, settle in and forget you're drinking Polar.
unless you really have to tick this one.. pass and get a Presidente.
