A very good beer that is easy to drink and nice and flavoursome.

AKA - the velvet sledge hammer. This silky beer combines a good dose of chocolate aroma and taste backed by coffee, smoke, raisins and slight aniseed.

Weaker in alcohol and taste than other Russian Imperial Stouts I have had but nevertheless a very good beer that was a nice dessert to end my evening of beer

A - Midnight black with a lightly tanned creamy head which retains well. Sheet lacing.

S - Burnt dark chocolate, rich earthy roasted malts, sultanas, coffee and molasses.

T - Coffee, ash, chocolate, dark fruits and berries.

M - Too light a body for an RIS, light to medium bodied. A thicker, chewier body wouldve been the way to go.

O - Dont mind it. The texture just lets it down, but there are some pleasant aromas and flavours to experience here.

Drank on Tap at Sail & Anchor Fremantle

A - Pours a deep Ebony colour with a tanned mocha head thate retains well.

S - Nice blend of cocoa, and roasted malts, alittle dusty as well.

T - Quite a smokey charred flavour with a boozyness to boot. The roasted malts and slight seeetness work well with each other.

M - Medium to full body with minimal carbonation, a little light.

O - Not a great impy stout, and there are much better examples out there.

Tried on tap at Sydney's Local Taphouse. Very excited to see it there.

Pours a deep, dark, horrible black. Very opaque, without even much lightening of the colour at the edges or when held to the light. Head is a tick and foamy mocha brown, rather light for an impy. The body doesn't look particularly dense, but otherwise looks pretty good.

Rich high-cocoa chocolate on the nose, dusty with a lingering whiff of blackened malt. Certainly lacks on sweetness, but that's what you get. All things considered, not terrible heavy or robust considering the style, but otherwise very nice.

Deep dark characters on the palate with a vague back-palate of booze. Very ashy, very charred, and it really lacks some body and sweetness to back up the astringency. Feel is very light, a shame, because a thick, chewy, silky body is a necessity in the style.

Not the best imperial stout I've had, and not even the best Australian example I've had. Hey it's not a bad beer, and I love that more Australian breweries are cranking out the more extreme end of the brewing spectrum, but it's certainly sub-par for the style.

quite an impressive new beer from the guys at moo brew.
close to 8% abv but damn drinkable,

dark but not quite black with a nice foamy dark tan head. a quite ominous look from a beer whose roots stem from a quite tame brewery.

smell is fairly restrained. mostly roasty which hints to the strength of the malts, with a light hint of floral hops.

taste is very impressive. nice roast malt, which contributes more than just a hint of bitterness, with a lasting smoothness. really, its up there with the best of stouts. very smooth with some chocolate to balance out the abv, and bitterness.

all i can say is it brings back memories of ballast point sea monster stout on nitro. until this point, that was easily my favorite stout. now however, this bring in serious competition. hopefully owen considers (or at least those holding the purse strings) bringing this one in as a seasonal.
