Had an incredibly clean pour and an unbelievably sweet nose, especially for a Dortmunder. The smell was followed by the same sweetness in the taste. I found this surprising for the style but was also very pleased with the variance from the norm.

Some noble hops come through a sweet malty flavor but ultimately this beer was of extremely high quality.

On tap at the brewery.

Pours a very clean and clear golden color with a decent enough white head and a bit of lacing on the glass. The nose brings some very light grain and a bit of sweetened bread. The flavor is no different. Way too much sweetness for the style, creating a body that is far too big. Really need to mash this lower or attenuate further. Lots of sweet malt with some faint noble hops. Body is, again, to full. Not crisp as it should be. Not a fan.

Reviewed on 6/27/2010. On tap at the brewpub. The beer pours a clear light orange with a small white head. Aroma of sweet grainy malt. Flavor is also grainy with corny, cardboard malt. Not very flavorful, meh. There is just not much to say about this beer.

Caught a pint of the Bungtown Export after a long day at work up in Benton Harbor and it was just the refreshing session brew I was looking for. Love hitting up the Livery when we are in town and catching whatever they have on draught!

Appearance- Slightly hazy, deep golden/straw color with soft orange highlights. Creamy white, billowy head lingers at about 1/4 finger leaving a sheet of heavy lacing, top to bottom.

Aroma- Fresh baked white bread and warm biscuit notes. Slightly spicy/floral noble hop aromas and a touch of orange fruit and yeast. Fairly clean nose but smells a bit too citrusy/yeasty for style. A whisper of DMS.

Flavor- Pils malt sweetness with a bit of DMS up front. Earthy/floral hop flavors also chime in. Citrus notes intensify in middle, but fade to a moderately long bready/yeasty finish with moderate hop bitterness balancing malty sweetness. Nice balance with the malty sweetness barely edging out the hops.

Mouth- Light-medium bodied, medium CO2, with low-moderate residual sweetness. Nice balance.

Overall- A tasty brew that is very drinkable and quite sessionworthy. Just a hair out of style with the citrus/yeasty aromas and flavors, but a good brew nonetheless!

“Bungtown” is the slang term bestowed on Benton Harbor during the heyday of the lumber trade when wooden kegs were built and shipped from here.

Bungtown Export Lager arrived in the pint glass, a deep rich golden color with good clarity. The head was a finger of thick creamy foam and the lace was thick and sticky.
The smell was predominantly bready malt sweetness, grain husk, and lightly grassy hops. The flavors rest on a solid sweet malty base with floral and grassy hops. There is a moderate bitterness and a lightly dry finish.
A moderate carbonation feels right on the light to medium body and gave it an overall crisp mouthfeel.
I found it to be very tasty and highly drinkable.
